Recruiting Report: Isaiah Saulsberry (2018)
Harrisburg 2018 shooting guard Isaiah Saulsberry is one of the top scorers in southern Illinois and in 2A across the state. He is averaging 21.3 points per game. Saulsberry is a big time perimeter shooter with a smooth looking stroke from deep. Quality athlete that can score off the bounce as well. We caught up with Saulsberry to chat about his season.
“I think I have played really well this year. I think my role as a leader on and off the court really shows in our record. I think I have played a lot smarter this season and shot the ball well. I have been able to attack the rim whenever I want to this season which opens up my jump shot. Being able to mix up my game this year has made me hard to guard. People know I can shoot, but being able to get to the rim makes me a lot harder to guard!”
What does he feel he can bring to a team in college?
“I think I could bring multiple things to the table at the next level. I know I’m going to have to work hard for minutes, but that’s part of my game. The main thing I can bring to the table is my leadership. I want everyone to be involved and I want the team to be as good as we can be. I can bring my length to defend without fouling. I have a long reach. Defending someone as good as or better than me will make me a lot better defender in college. I am also going to bring my ability to score the ball in different ways. My main strength on the offensive end is shooting the basketball.”
Saulsberry updated us on the recruiting process.
“Maryville is still the only team that has offered me. Rockhurst has been texting me on and off. Ohio Dominican University has been keeping up with me. Southwest Minnesota State has been talking to me pretty aggressively and going to offer when I come for a visit. Southern Indiana told me they wanted to get over to see another game. Illinois Springfield wanted me to get over to a game a while back, but I wasn’t able to make it due to a game we had.”
What will he be looking for in a program?
“I’m going to be looking for a school that has a great coaching staff that wants his players to do well in school and on the court. I’m going to be looking for a place that has a good education program in general!”
Saulsberry is a no doubt D2 prospect in our eyes. He has the ability to be an instant impact scorer at that level. The senior ran with the Illinois Bears throughout his high school career on the circuit. He is the #48 overall prospect in the PrepHoopsIllinois 2018 rankings and #15 shooting guard.
