Recruiting Report: Garrett Silcott (2018)
The high school season is wearing down here and players are starting to settle in just before the playoffs begin. One player that is looking at one last big run is Connersville’s Garrett Silcott.
The 6’1 lanky guard is off to a great start and has helped put Connersville at a 17-4 record with three games left in the regular season. In his first three years at Connersville, Silcott has won 16 games, 21 games, and 27 games with this season still to finish out. He also has two Sectional Championships right now and looking at a possibly third.
Coming into the season, Silcott was a solid contributor but more of a role player with guys like Grant Smith and company in years past. Now, though, Silcott has stepped into that leadership role just as his body is taking a step forward and he’s having a big final season.
Averaging 16.0 points per game and 5.2 rebounds, Silcott’s game is really taking shape. He’s taller, longer, and more impactful on offense. Any Connersville player is going to have some amount of versatility and toughness and Garrett has that. The biggest stride outside of the overall offense is his perimeter shooting. He’s now 26/72 on the year for 36%. This is the most amount of threes he’s taken and while that doesn’t qualify as a lightsout shooter, that is pretty good.
Recruiting is picking up as well. IU-East, Wabash, Clarion, Findlay, and West Virginia State have all been in contact lately. Local powerhouse IU-East has surely been watching for a long time but catching the eye of Findlay is a big win.
Silcott is a high academic student looking to study Business at the next level. Right now, though, he’s looking at finishing off his third straight Sectional Title with Connersville.
