Recruiting Report: Eddie Gill Jr. (2018)
Carmel got off to a slow start to the year but recently have been playing really well. A lot of that credit is due to the return of Eddie Gill Jr. The point guard returned midseason this year after an injury and it seems like he hasn’t missed a beat. Gill is receiving interest from every level in the college ranks and will have many suitors for his game.
Gill has two offers thus far from Bethel and Purdue-Northwest. Gill has interest from Ferris State and a couple DIII schools as well. He has visited Bethel, Ferris State, and Purdue-Northwest then several DIII schools. Gill has told me that he is looking to visit everywhere again once more before he makes a decision.
Gill is one of the most athletic guards in the state regardless of class and is improving his shot quickly. Over the last year Gill has improved a ton and it can be seen on the court. Gill’s shot is better than it was last year and he can shoot it with high confidence. Gill is also one of the best defenders in the state regardless of class and he puts just as much work in on that end than the offensive end. College coaches have taken notice of this and have commented on it to Gill.
“I think that I have improved tremendously this past year,” Gill said. “Although I was hurt and did not play the first half of my season, I was constantly in the gym getting shots whenever I could and it definitely paid off. I am shooting nearly 55 percent from two and nearly 50 percent from the 3-point line and am continually improving. Also, athletically I continue to improve, being able to jump higher and higher and run faster and faster. My athleticism helps me on both ends of the floor being able to drive past defenders and also keep good guards in front on the defensive end. Coaches have said that they like that I am both a threat on the 3-point line and getting to the rim, my defense, and sheer athleticism.”
Even though Gill has come out this year and been really, really good, he continues to strive for perfection. He is continually working on things and working to help his team. He already would be a huge benefit to whichever college he lands at but instead of being complacent he is working to be a better player every day.
“I am continuing to work on my jump shot to get it as automatic as possible,” Gill said. “I am also working on my ball handling to be able to get to the rim whenever I want.”
Gill is a guy who could contribute early and often to a small school as he is an athletic guard who can play above the rim at just 6’ tall. He has a jump shot that he gets off in traffic and is able to create off the bounce for himself and teammates. Gill is a tough-nosed guard who can hang with any guy in the state. A great addition to any team in the state as he will just keep getting better and better. As far as schools at the next level, Gill has an idea of what type of college he is looking for but hasn’t ruled any schools out.
“Academically, I am looking for a place that will provide me with an education to kick start me in my career after college, athletically, I’m looking for a place that I would go play at and contribute to the team as a freshman but also would like to learn under and older guard already in the program until I got the college feel, and as far and the environment and location, I would like to stay somewhat close to home but am open to anything right now.”
