Recruiting Report: Cameron Harris (2018)
One of the best players for Crawfordsville last year is one of their only returnees to this years’ team. Cameron Harris, a 6’3 shooting guard, is pouring in the points this year as Crawfordsville is trying to overcome losing five seniors off of last year’s team which accounted for five of their top seven.
Harris has visited IU-Kokomo and is planning to set up a visit to Marian in the near future. Harris has been in contact with both schools.
“I like how they are close to home,” Harris said. “I know people that go to both schools so I am able to get feedback from them and that helps out a lot.”
Harris is averaging 20.9 points a game thus far this year and has a season-high of 32 points. Harris has continually been scoring 20 or more points a game and has two double doubles thus far this year. Crawfordsville is struggling a bit this season but Harris is doing his best to keep them afloat and they have the potential to knock a few teams off in the tournament.
“So far, I have been able to score at a better pace than I have throughout my high school career,” Harris said. “This year we are really young and inexperienced, I am about the only guy who played varsity last year. That puts the pressure and challenge on me but all that makes me a better player. It pushes me to become better.”
Harris is receiving some college interest but he knows in order to contribute that he must get better. There are a few things that Harris has been working on specifically this year to mold himself into a player that is ready to come in and compete in college from day one.
“Over the summer I really worked on my quickness and ability to drive to the hole,” Harris said. “It has made me more versatile and has given me many more opportunities. It has helped me get to the free throw line and racks up more points.”
Besides these things, the college coaches have given him some things that they want him to work on before he chooses a school.
“(They say) I need get stronger and quicker,” Harris said. “Then just getting better at everything else.”
