Recruiting Report: Caleb Strohmeier (2018)
Edwardsville 6’6” Caleb Strohmeier is a competitive kid that plays hard. When on the block he can play physical sealing off his man in the high low or just bullying through them for a score. Also works well in the mid-range where he can hit face up jump shots from an array of spots at 15-18 feet. Efficient with his touches scoring. Rebounds well in traffic with his strong hands. At the next level he is your classic D3/NAIA pick and pop four man that will be a very productive four year player at that level. Team first player!
Strohmeier spoke about his senior season.
“It is going good. We have had a good season so far. Overall I think we are doing really good.”
How has it gone for him and Jack Marinko going from role players to feature guys with the departure of the big three from a year ago?
“It was definitely an adjustment we had to make for our team to be successful. I think we have been stepping up good. Really taking on that leadership role. Overall I think we have been doing a good job. Other guys coming off the bench last year have stepped up as well.”
He chatted with us about the improvement in his game.
“Shooting. I was in the gym over the summer so much trying to get shots up. I knew that was going to be huge this year to help improve my scoring. Shooting and getting to the basket. Ball handling. I have handled it some at the point for the high school team. I know I will have to do some of that at the next level.”
What can he bring to a team at the next level?
“I can be that guy that can handle the ball and make shots and score. I can be that four that can lock up on defense and play around the basket. I think I can bring a lot to a team.”
He updated us on his recruitment.
“UMSL is really interested. Drury has coming in the picture late.”
The senior broke down both of those programs.
Drury
“The coaches text me about every day and call me. I feel comfortable with that school and that coaching style. It is the same as Edwardsville.”
UMSL
“It is a little bit closer. I feel like my family can come and see all those games.”
Any visits coming up?
“No not that I know of. I am sure I will have some visits after the season is over. See where everything lays out and what schools pop up.”
Strohmeier played with Jets-Ramey United on the travel team circuit.
