Recruiting Report: Brian Long (2018)
One player in the state the will make an impact at the next level is 6’7 center Brian Long. The Greenfield-Central center is just now finding his stride in his senior year and a host of Division III schools have been in contact with him. Long is a big bodied post player with an improving post arsenal. Greenfield-Central is struggling a bit this year at 7-14 but have won three of their last four.
“As a team, we have been in many close games with a total of nine overtime’s,” Long said. “We’ve been playing really good basketball on a tough schedule with some really good teams and have went toe to toe with some of the best teams in our area. With the signing of a new coach, graduating a good senior class from last year and having to bring up younger guys, it has been a tough year with everyone learning and trying to figure everyone out. I still believe that we are way better than our record shows, have our best basketball ahead of us, and have a chance at winning our sectional.”
Long has spent countless hours in the gym working on improving his game in many aspects as well as adding strength to his frame. Long has proven that he can belong and when he gets the ball he is always looking to make plays.
“I feel that I have improved tremendously in all aspects of my game such as post moves, passing, shooting, strength, athleticism, basketball IQ,” Long said. “In the past year, I’ve worked on my game and put in the hours on the court and in the weight room in order to try and become a more well-rounded player.”
This improvement has caught the eye of D3 schools such as Anderson, DePauw, Rose-Hulman, Trine, and Wabash. Long has visited Anderson and DePauw thus far and plans to take a visit to Rose-Hulman and possibly Trine. The coaches from these schools have told him that they understand he is still a little bit raw and for him to keep working on his game and to continue to get stronger.
Long is sure to have multiple suitors for his game at the next level. He doesn’t know for sure where he wants to go but he has an idea of what type of school his is looking for.
“As far as a future school I’m looking for a place that can feel and act like a second home for me,” Long said. “I look highly at the academic background the school possesses over everything but I also look for a strong athletic team, great coaching staff, great school culture and background.”
