Detroit Catholic Central forward Justin Rukat is having a breakout season and is among the biggest stockrisers of the Winter.
“Overall, I’m pretty proud of the way I’ve played and think I’ve done really well. My outside shot has been consistent all year, and my rebounding and finishing around the rim has been good as well.”
At 6’7 with plus length and fluid movements, Justin passes the eye test from a physical standpoint. Offensively, Rukat is a stretch 4 with range out to three and soft touch around the basket. While his offensive skillset is rapidly improving, his greatest asset is protecting the rim. Justin has great timing and blocks multiple shots per game while altering a ton more.
“I’d say my biggest strength is definitely my shotblocking ability on the defensive end of the court. Also, for my height I believe I can play very well in space.”
While he doesn’t hold an offer yet, Rukat’s recruitment has picked up in recent weeks as his status as a student-athlete is a plus with college coaches.
“The interest in my game has been growing. D2 schools have been contacting my coach, requesting film, and have been out to see me. These schools also like the fact that my academics are solid.”
While his recruitment is still in the infancy stages, academics will be a priority in the decision making process.
“I’d say the main factors are making sure that the college is also known as a strong academic institution, as well as making sure that I fit in well with the program.”
Heading down the home stretch of the High School season and into the Spring, Rukat is focused on becoming more potent in the post while expanding his ball-skills during AAU season.
“For the remainder or the season, my goals are to continue progressing individually by getting off better shots from post-up opportunities, as well as working on being stronger with the ball. For this Summer, I’m going to be playing with the Playmakers and hope to develop my game into a more up-tempo style and work on the perimeter a little more.”
