Senior guard/wing Charles Brown is having a standout season for a Detroit Pershing squad that is among the favorites in Class C.
“I feel like I’ve played a key role in everything we’ve done even if I didn’t score the most points. I came up with some big rebounds or if it wasn’t my day scoring I got my teammates going with passing and creating.”
At 6’5 with a nice wingspan, Charles has the protoype physical profile for a guard/wing at the next level. Brown has a versatile skillset, with the ability to create shots for teammates off the dribble, as he excels as a distributor off the high ball screen. As a scorer, Charles is a very good shooter from distance off the catch and displays good athleticism and body control when attacking the basket and finishing.
“My biggest strength is going downhill because there are so many options you can get from doing so and another strength is being able to shoot over other people. I’m a 6’5 wing with long arms and can dribble like a guard and I can shoot the ball pretty good.”
I’ll go ahead and say it, Brown is the most underrated prospect in the state of Michigan at this point. He isn’t garnering a ton of attention right now but his recruitment is picking up recently with a local Division II program now in the mix.
“Wayne State, Indiana Tech and a couple of community colleges are showing interest. I’ve also talked to a couple of Prep Schools.”
When the time comes, Charles and his family are going to select a school that will aid him in developing as a young man as well as advancing his skills on the court.
“Am I comfortable going to that school? Can we trust that the program will take great care of me and help me better myself as a person, student, and of course an athlete.”
For now, Brown is locked in on helping the Doughboys tear down the nets at the Breslin in roughly a month.
“We had 2 goals coming into the season. One of them was to win the PSL and we came up short on that, but the other goal was to win States, so that’s what our main focus is now. Goals for myself are to help my team succeed, be a leader for those coming back next year, get recognition and be able to go to college for free and continue to play the game I love.”
