Prospect Spotlight: Buka Peikrishvili (2020)
Holy Spirit Prep is quickly turning into a potent basketball program.
One of their promising pieces is 2020 guard Buka Peikrishvili. He came to America, specifically Atlanta, Ga. two years ago from Georgia (the country not the state).
Peikrishvili says it was hard at first because his European game style was different than the way people play in the United States.
“When I met my team they were very excited to see me and they shared their thoughts about the new season. They told me that before I got there they got beat at Elite 8 in the state tournament,” Peikrishvili said. “We worked a lot, we had a lot of 6 AM workouts and my schedule got busier and busier. Hard work pays off and we won the state championship in 2017.
I’m most proud of my coach and my team. I became a way better shooter since I got in America. I’m thankful for my coach Greg McClaire who helped me become a better shooter.”
This summer, he played for the Atlanta Xpress on the UAA Circuit.
“It was pretty good because I got big experience playing with them,” Peikrishvili said. “I met a lot of good players and athletes and we traveled a lot.”
Basketball started for him at age 7. He played in his first tournament at age 10. He earned the MVP award in that tournament. At the age of 13, he was invited to the Georgian National Team where he traveled plenty and played against other European National Teams. He decided to further his game, coming to the US was the move.
Peikrishvili calls himself a big point guard who can use his body to work on the floor. He wants to continue becoming a better athlete and increase his game speed.
Often referred to by his coaches, teammates and fans as Buka, this kid has a ton of energy. He is a true spot-up shooter. Peikrishvili is developed in his range and he’s aiming to take his game to the next level. He should be able to do just that at Holy Spirit Prep with a hard-working group of coaches running the show.
