Prospect Spotlight: Avery Ford (2021)
Avery Ford, a class of 2021 forward at Paul VI, has been a key player off the bench for Paul VI this season. We first noticed his contributions during a road win at St. John’s just after New Year’s, but he’s definitely gained confidence in his role since that moment.
“I’m just a role player that does whatever it takes to help my team win. Play defense. Rebound. Go for loose balls. Things like that,” Ford said of his overall game. “My role is to come off the bench and provide energy. Play defense.”
We saw Ford make his impact felt on both ends of the floor in last night’s win over DeMatha. He followed in a missed shot for 2 points, and recorded 2 steals and a block. We asked Ford to rate his performance on a scale of 1-10.
“8. I think I could have done more things like rebound at the end more,” He explained. “I need to work on dribbling and shooting. Coach says on pick and pops if I’m open just take the shot. I can consistently hit open shots if I’m left open.”
Ford believes that if there’s one thing that could be considered underrated about his game, it’s his on-ball defense. What can he bring to a college program down the line?
“Energy and being a leader. Help my team win. Doing what the coach asks me to.”
