Prep basketball stars from previous generations leave a legacy.  When we watch current high school stars, we often see glimpses of stars from the past.  Derrick Walton Jr. is a legend in Michigan high school basketball.  The point guard left a legacy with his style of play and the success he has had.  Amir Huston Jr. is a 6-1 senior combo guard at Redford Union.  He is in the process of leaving his mark at his school and beyond.

When watching Amir Huston Jr. play basketball, the shades of Derrick Walton Jr. are evident.  Like Walton Jr., he is a gritty and determined athlete who plays hard and prepares his body to do so.  Huston Jr. is a strong rebounding guard who is active on the glass and isn’t afraid of battling with the bigs in the paint.  He has a high basketball IQ and prepares himself before stepping on the court.  Huston Jr. is solid defensively on the perimeter and will battle in the lane.

Huston Jr. knows that great basketball players need to prepare themselves to be successful.  He understands that the body needs to be ready to play the game.  That’s why he enjoys working out and makes sure to eat right.  To prepare for this season Huston Jr. ran hills, lifted weights, and did long distance endurance running.

Needless to say, Amir Huston Jr. is preparing himself for a successful future.  He wants to graduate from college with a 3.5 GPA and then play basketball professionally. After his professional basketball career, he wants to coach and teach the game.  “I would like to start coaching at an elite level to continue my basketball legacy,” said Huston Jr.

Amir Huston Jr. has a lot to offer a program at the next level.  He can bring a high basketball IQ, an unmatched work ethic, and a will to win.  Huston Jr. has a skill set that is enhanced by his gritty play and hard work.  This could make it easier for his game to transfer to the next level.  As he improves his jumper and ball handling skills, his game will continue to improve.

Amir Huston Jr. is driven to be successful.  “My father is my greatest motivation to achieve my goals.  He has been pushing me to be the best I can be since I was young,” he said.  His motivation doesn’t end there.  “Also my mother has been there to support me through everything I have experienced and I would like to get to a point where she is no longer working,” said Huston Jr.
