Prospect Introduction: John Solomon (2021)
Averaging nearly a double double this season, Sarasota Christian freshman forward John Solomon has been solid, to say the least.
The 6’7″, 180-pounder is averaging 12.9 points and 9.3 rebounds per game. He has six double doubles including a 20-point, 11-rebound performance last month.
Solomon got his feet wet as an 8th grader playing a reserve role for the Blazers. He says that was a big step for him as he learned a lot on and off the court.
“I learned the game of basketball last year honestly and what it means to be apart of a high school varsity team with such great history,” he said. “I have grown mostly as a scorer and a rebounder.”
Solomon’s expectations for this season are for his group to win a Class 3A-District 5 title and then make a strong push in regionals.
Currently, the Blazers are in fourth place in the district with a 12-11 overall record and 4-6 district showing.
He has big goals for the rest of the season.
“My personal expectations are to average a double-double for the remainder of the season. I also feel like I’ve grown a lot from a leader standpoint on this team alongside my boy Jordan Litwiller,” Solomon said. “My teammates now count on me to put up big numbers. I’ve come along way defensively this year, getting a few blocks shots each game.”
This summer, Solomon played travel ball with both Nike Team Florida and the Sarasota Mambas.
“2017 was my first year with Nike Team Florida but 3rd with the Mambas. It was a really cool experience to play outside of the state. I played in Indiana, Washington D.C and Georgia,” he said. “Going forward there’s a lot I need to work on but luckily for me, I have a great coach at my school, my travel ball coaches teach me so much as well as my trainer. I’m truly blessed to have the support of my family as well.”
No offers have come yet for Solomon, but he says he’s excited for the day that he gets that first phone call.
In terms of his biggest strengths, he pointed to his wingspan, height and ability to read the court and pass the ball around.
“I would like to get better at all aspects of my game and just moving forward in my game is always a positive,” Solomon said.
A bright and determined 2021 forward, Solomon has ideal size and interior ability to develop into something truly special. If he hits the weight room hard on a consistent basis and furthers his game, then he’ll earn a ton of offers here soon.
