O’Fallon Shootout: Evaluations
PrepHoopsIllinois covered one of our favorite events of the year on Saturday at the O’Fallon Shootout. We have an extensive 30+ player scouting report on prospects from Illinois and Missouri. Check out the evaluations of prospects from a variety of college levels here!
Class of 2018
PG Jalen Hodge (O’Fallon – 2018)
Hodge is one of the better unsigned point guards in the state of Illinois. He currently holds six D2 offers and is a priority recruit at that level. It was a slow start shooting for Hodge as he was only 1-6 from three in the first half, but got it cooking in the second half. Hodge is definitely a streaky shooter, but in the second half he leaned toward the hot side drilling four triples getting his team back in the game. Clean looking stroke and can create space with a step back. Shot 4-11 from deep. Hodge handles it well in the open floor pushing in transition and gets to the rack where he can finish with acrobatic layups or runners. He played solid defensively with his length. Hodge had 27 points (10-20 FG).
PG Teron Bowman (O’Fallon – 2018)
Bowman is a tiny 5’8” guard that can really shoot it from deep! The senior guard went 5-10 from three and was confident every time it left his hand. Pesky defender as well. The small college or JUCO prospect had 19 points, 4 rebounds, and 3 steals.
PF Treavon Martin (Curie – 2018)
Tennessee State got a good one in Martin! The 6’8” post was a major presence on the interior for Curie in their win against Chaminade. He anchored in the paint with his rebounding grabbing contested rebounds at a high rate throughout the contest. He also made his presence felt defensively especially early on setting the tone swatting a trio of early attempts. Martin’s defense and rebounding are ahead of his offense, but he was solid on that ends as well getting put backs, bullying his way through his man for a score, and even hitting a face up 15 foot shot. Martin had 9 points (4-6 FG), 12 rebounds, and 3 blocks.
PF Tyree Martin (Curie – 2018)
The other Martin Brother had a solid game as well. Did a nice job protecting the rim with his length and mobility on the defensive end. Quality rebounder in traffic and had a couple on the offensive end. Kept the ball high when he had it offensively scoring on three field goal attempts. Martin finished with 6 points, 7 rebounds, and 2 blocks. Tennessee State commit.
PG Maurice Commander (Curie – 2018)
The UT-Chattanooga commit is the guy that makes this team go. The lefty floor general pushed the tempo throughout getting others involved and was a problem on the defensive end for his opponent getting four steals. Shot the ball better from three than inside the arc in this game as he couldn’t get buckets to fall inside the arc. From deep he was 3-8. Quick stroke from three that he can hit off the catch and pulling up. Commander had 14 points (4-12 FG) and 4 dimes.
SG Cardell McGee (Springfield Lanphier – 2018)
Lanphier’s star senior really struggled against Bolingbrook having one of the worst shooting performances we have seen out of him going 3-18 from the field. McGee just couldn’t get anything to fall. The top 30 prospect couldn’t connect on threes and bricked quite a few jumpers. His strength is his mid-range and he did hit one from there. Despite his poor scoring night he contributed in other areas. McGee rebounded well for his position and was solid passing the ball throughout the game despite having a few too many turnovers. His final stat line was 7 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists, and 8 turnovers. Low-major prospect if he qualifies. If he doesn’t he should be one of the better JUCO prospects in the state.
SG James Jones (Springfield Lanphier – 2018)
Jones was impressive for Lanphier. This 6’1” shooting guard plays bigger than his height with his length and angular build. Quick around the hoop to the offensive glass where he grabbed five of them and has athleticism to finish at the cup. He had 12 points, 6 rebounds, and 3 steals. Small colleges and JUCO’s need to look into Jones.
SG Malachi Smith (Belleville West – 2018)
It was a rough shooting night from the field for the Wright State commit. He had his stretches of brilliance, but the jumper wouldn’t consistently fall in this one. Hit one early from three and then didn’t get one to go down the rest of the night. He got out in transition for several scores where he converted and-1s and used a sweet floater which has become a mainstay in his game. Got to the charity stripe at a high rate going 5-5 from there. Active on the defensive end in this fast paced game. Finished with 18 points (6-16 FG), 5 rebounds, 3 assists, and 4 steals.
PG Courtney Ramey (Webster Groves, MO – 2018)
Ramey is one of the most coveted point guard prospects in the country. He decommitted form Louisville after the FBI investigation and he is being heavily pursued by top programs from coast to coast. It is easy to see why! Ramey started off with a quiet first half against Belleville West with only a handful of points. He then went off in the second half and particularly the third quarter. Ramey is a long and wiry point guard that has a burst off the bounce being able to get to the rim time after time. He was very aggressive getting to the cup in the second half including a poster jam and several and-1 conversions. He is such a competitive kid and does whatever he can to will his team who was without Carte’Are Gordon on Saturday. Ramey is a slick handling guard that can also get others involved with an advanced feel for the game. Didn’t shoot it particularly well at the O’Fallon Shootout. The stat sheet stuffer also got on the glass and had several nice steals. Ramey finished with 24 points (7-19 FG) and 6 dimes. Priority high-major point guard.
SG RJ Wright (Webster Groves, MO – 2018)
Wright is a 6’2” senior guard with quality athleticism at the guard spot. He has the ability to knock down shots off the catch particularly from the corners. Combination of athleticism and shooting make him worth a look at the small college or JUCO level.
PG Jadis White (Chaminade – 2018)
White is an under recruited point guard that at 6’1” with a slender frame has some game to him. It wasn’t a dominant performance, but he continues to show why we believe he needs to be given more consideration by D2 programs. Slick handles in the lane including a sweet euro step at the cup. Makes acrobatic shots at the rim. Bit of a volume scorer in this particular game. White has a nice feel for getting others involved with his passing and vision. White finished with 12 points, 6 rebounds, and 6 dimes.
PF Henry Gladson (Chaminade – 2018)
Gladson is headed to Notre Dame to play baseball, but he has been an important part of Chaminade’s success this season. The 6’6” country strong post is an outstanding rebounder that snatches everything that comes in his area especially on the defensive end. Had a couple nice finishes around the hoop and got to the line. Skilled passer as well. Gladson had 12 points, 14 rebounds, and 2 dimes.
Class of 2019
PF EJ Liddell (Belleville West – 2019)
Liddell is becoming an absolute must watch prospect for fans across the state! The elite 2019 power forward puts on a show each and every time we see him play. At 6’7” the skilled and athletic four man can beat a defense in so many ways. He opened the game up with a pull up three and then followed that up with a windmill in transition that brought the house down. His mobility, quickness, and athleticism are so impressive for a young post. Liddell had a few other jams inside. His body positioning on the interior is impressive. High IQ post. He got to the foul line at a great rate where he was solid connecting on 10-14. Quick to the offensive glass for second chance opportunities. Strong hands both grabbing rebounds and catching passes in traffic. Runs the floor well and has definitely added in the ability to score off the bounce this year. Complete power forward! He had 33 points (11-17 FG), 10 rebounds, 4 blocks, 3 assists, and 2 steals.
PF Keith Randolph (Belleville West – 2019)
Randolph is a huge body inside at 6’6” with a bid bodied frame. He is a mauler on the glass and did that again against Webster Groves grabbing four offensive rebounds. Great area rebounder that has strong hands. Physical finisher around the hoop and a solid defender. Plays hard! He had 9 points (3-5 FG) and 8 rebounds. D2 prospect right now. Has picked up a handful of D1 football offers in the last couple weeks.
C Francis Okoro (Normal West – 2019)
The top 2019 prospect in Illinois opened the day at the O’Fallon Shootout with a dominant performance. Okoro stands at 6’9” with a college ready body right now. What impressed me so much about him is how hard he plays at all times. Okoro runs the floor insanely well for a player of his size. He fights and claws for post position every time down the floor despite having defenders draped all over him. Understands how to give his guards a big target to throw the ball into. He had quick and assertive moves throughout the game. Opened the first possession with a spin and slam. Consistently got deep post position which opens up so many avenues for him to score. Powerful finisher on the interior that also showed some touch on a hook shot. At times he did lose the ball when bringing it too low. Connected on a mid-range jumper and is an excellent free throw shooter for a post. The best part of Okoro’s game is the way he rebounds. Yes, the opponent wasn’t the tallest, but he high points every board and grabs it with two hands then throws a crisp outlet. Okoro is one of the premier 2019 rebounders in the country. Elite rebounder in traffic. Defensively he only had one block, but he altered many others throughout the game. His final stat line was 24 points (9-11 FG), 13 rebounds, and 1 block. High-major recruit and we feel is a five star caliber prospect.
PG Shea Cupples (Normal West – 2019)
Cupples is a 5’11” point guard that showed he could shoot the ball from the perimeter. Drilled an array of threes both off the catch and pulling up. Crisp passes in the half court. He had 11 points. Small college kid.
PG Nate Duckworth (Normal West – 2019)
Duckworth is a 6’0” point guard that also excels shooting the rock. Hit a pair of threes off the catch early in the contest. He converted a couple nice layups around defenders and was a good distributor from the lead guard spot. He had 10 points and 5 dimes. D3/NAIA prospect.
PF Karl Wright (Springfield Lanphier – 2019)
Wright is a 6’5” uber bouncy power forward that plays with a high energy motor. He is a quality rebounder that gets on the glass on both ends of the floor. Quick explosion off the floor and snaches rebounds in traffic. Wright was efficient with his touches and got to the free throw line at a high rate hitting 6-8. Late in the contest he showed off his big time athleticism with a couple huge dunks. Wright had 14 points (4-6 FG) and 9 rebounds. Projects as a D2 prospect with low-major upside.
C Herb McMath (Springfield Lanphier – 2019)
This 6’’6” post is a wide bodied big man that is a space eater on the interior. Excellent area rebounder that gets rebounds and draws contact going to the line. He had 9 points and 8 rebounds. Small college prospect.
PG Joseph Yesufu (Bolingbrook – 2019)
Yesufu did what he always does on the big stage. The 5’11” point guard has tremendous speed with the ball in the open floor. He is so fast going coast to coast in the blink of an eye. His burst is off the charts. Yesufu’s athleticism is very impressive with the way he finishes at the rim with acrobatic layups and dunks. Also showed that on the defensive end recording three block shots. That is insanely impressive for a sub six foot guard. Yesufu pretty much got to the rim at will on Saturday. Struggled shooting it from three only going 1-5 from deep. He pushed the tempo and made several outstanding passes for assists. One of the strengths of his game is what he does on the defensive end. Gets in passing lanes for steals and takes them the other way. He had 21 points (10-17 FG), 4 assists, 3 blocks, and 4 steals. Mid-major prospect.
PG Tyler Cochran (Bolingbrook – 2019)
Cochran is a bigger guard at 6’2” with a physical build. More of a scoring combo that has some point guard abilities. He can really shoot the ball from the perimeter. Cochran is most effective shooting off the catch from the corners. He drills them at a high rate from that spot. Plays tough in the paint getting on the offensive glass for put backs and finishes through contact at the rim. Excellent rebounder for a combo guard. Also has a knack for being a crafty defender on the defensive end. Cochran had 21 points (7-16 FG), 10 rebounds, 3 dimes, and 3 steals.
F Marquise Ratcliff (Bolingbrook – 2019)
Ratcliff is intriguing with his athleticism and hops as a 6’5” combo forward. He was excellent rebounding the basketball particularly on the offensive end grabbing multiple second chance opportunities. Would like to see some skill development, but one we will track this summer. He had 4 points and 7 rebounds.
PF Kameron Leonard (Bolingbrook – 2018)
Leonard has a good frame at 6’7” with long arms. A bit stiff at times, but he does run the floor well and can protect the rim inside. There are some tools to work with, but he will need to be refined over the next year. Right now he projects a small college player. Finished with 4 points and 2 boards.
SG Dajuan Gordon (Curie – 2019)
Gordon is a player we continue to like every time we see him. The top 15 prospect got the MVP of their game and with good reason. The 6’4” long and rangy two guard has excellent athleticism and shows that off with his ability to get to the rim. Does it in both transition and off the bounce. At times he can be a little wild because he isn’t quite strong enough to go through guys right now. Had a great up and under. His burst off the dribble is outstanding and Gordon is very smooth with the ball in his hands. Got on the offensive glass for a few put backs. Connected on one three. Quality rebounder on both ends. He had 22 points (8-16 FG) and 8 rebounds. Mid-major prospect.
SG Justin Harmon (Curie – 2019)
Harmon had one of his better games of the season. The smooth 6’3” junior shooting guard is a scoring guard with a lot of untapped potential. He got to the rim consistently throughout their game for an array of and-1s and transition finishes. Little bit wild at times with the ball. He was solid on the defensive end guarding on the perimeter. Harmon got to the line at a good rate. He had 10 points (3-5 FG), 3 rebounds, and 2 steals. Low-majors need to start investing some time in this under the radar wing.
PG Marquise Walker (Curie – 2019)
Walker is a lead guard at 6’0” that has had a solid year for his new team. The guard didn’t start in this game and struggled coming off the bench especially with his jumper only hitting 1-5 from three. Had a couple nice takes to the hoop and a few quick dishes inside. Finished with 10 points. Low-major prospect with mid-major upside.
SG Keyyaun Batchman (Chaminade, MO – 2019)
Batchman is a player that grows on us each time we see him play. The 6’2” lefty isn’t the most athletic player, but he is extremely crafty knowing how to get the job done! Batchman can shoot it from three off the catch effectively. That is his strength as he went 3-4 from deep. He knows how to use his body control in the lane to score taking quality angles to the hoop. Strong enough to take a bump inside. Tough kid that crashes the offensive glass. He finished with 21 points and 6 rebounds. Low-majors need to be on him.
PG Amorey Womack (Webster Groves, MO – 2019)
Womack is a 6’1” guard with a physical build. Strong and stocky. He is a solid athlete that got a lot of his points late in junk time. Hit a couple threes, but also had several wild ones from deep. Volume scorer that can do some things in transition. Projects as a small college player.
SF Stevie Wright (Webster Groves, MO – 2019)
Wright was the standout for Webster Groves in the first half. The 6’5” junior small forward was a beast on the glass particularly the offensive end grabbing a ton of second chance opportunities and capitalizing on them. Quick second jump. Hit one mid-range jumper, but beyond that not much skill. He had 10 points (5-7 FG) and 6 rebounds. Small college prospect.
Class of 2020
SG Drew Wollenschlager (Normal West – 2020)
Wollenschlager is a 6’1” shooting guard that should grow a bit more as he has a baby face. Average athlete, but he has a high skill level scoring in the paint on mid-range jumpers and is an excellent passer for a wing making quite a few excellent finds. He had 8 points, 5 rebounds, and 5 dimes. Could emerge over the next couple years.
G PJ Edwards (Springfield Lanphier – 2020)
Edwards is one of the top combo guards in the state of Illinois in the sophomore class. He is a big 6’4” guard that has size and athleticism. Struggled scoring in this game after he got a couple buckets early. That didn’t stop him from dishing out the rock which he did well finding teammates for finishes. He had 7 points, 3 rebounds, 5 assists, and 2 steals. Top 15 2020 prospect in Illinois projects as a mid-major prospect.
SG Luke Kasubke (Chaminade, MO – 2020)
Kasubke has had a monster sophomore campaign. He went from on the radar to legit top 5 player in the Missouri 2020 class and a potential high-major prospect. At 6’6” he has tremendous size for position. He struggled a bit shooting it from three, but still connected on 3-9 from deep. Projects as a big time spot up shooter at the college level. What caught our eye was how he contributed in other areas. Excellent passing from the wing and also blocked multiple transition layups. Good athlete that continues to improve and show he is more than just a shooter. He had 15 points.
SF Harrison Vickers (Chaminade, MO – 2020)
Vickers is a very intriguing long term as he is a long and rangy 6’4” wing that should continue to grow. Plus athlete that plays well in the transition game and can hit an occasional three although he struggled from deep in this game. Not a huge stat night, but we are still fans of the upside here. He had 5 points (2-7 FG), 3 assists, and 2 steals. Low-majors should have him in their databases.
Class of 2021
SF Jonathan Dunn (Chaminade, MO – 2021)
The only freshman that made a significant impact was this 6’5” small forward. Dunn is a well-built kid that has broad shoulders and a frame he can continue to add strength. He had a couple aggressive takes to the hoop and got on the offensive glass for a nice put back. Dunn’s aggressiveness was rewarded with a handful of free throws. He had 6 points. Looks like a D1 prospect early in the process.
