Noble Notables: South Florida
German Alvergna, Mater Lakes Academy
An important figure in the high-low game Mater Lakes Academy executes, Alvergna has the scoring aptitude and poised play to consistently provide that dependable third leg of scoring.
While veteran and go-to source Cyrus Largie spearheads the offense with scoring tools at all three levels, Alvergna has stepped up in recent moments and shown his readiness. This was particularly evident with his performance during the RMF Magazine tournament at Chaminade-Madonna High School.
Cesar Linarez, Mater Lakes Academy
While he’s one of the lesser acclaimed guards of MLA’s backcourt core, Linarez has been a sturdy supplemental piece offensively.
He’s also done a commendable job operating the offense and feeding go-to sources such as Cyrus Largie and 6-foot-6 big Alejandro Cuevas. He’s bought in by subscribing to his role, which entails thorough on-ball defense and close-outs and heavily contesting shots.
Yugi Jentry, Coral Springs Charter
While Coral Springs Charter features one of the more underrated scorers and playmakers in the area in catch-and-stick threat Ian Tajalli, the system is predicated on thorough in-your-jersey defense.
Jentry, who possesses length and quick hands, has developed a knack for instigating turnovers and converting them into transition leakouts.
Malcolm Farrington, Believe Prep Academy (pictured above)
The Class of 2019 guard from West Palm Beach is known for his lethal 3-point shooting ability and confrontational defensive tactics.
Playing alongside 6-foot-6 high riser Devan Cambridge, Farrington now finds himself flushed into a more prominent role. Both players are shouldering a significant amount of Believe’s offensive weight.
Known for marquee performances on big stages and a history of reeling off personal scoring onslaughts with his shooting, Farrington is appealing to Division-I programs because of his strength and high-level academics (he currently holds a 4.0 GPA).
The 6-foot-3, 190-pound guard has expanded his offensive repertoire by becoming more of an attack the rim threat and finishing hard surges through traffic.
Farrington first etched a name for himself at the now-defunct Conrad Academy prep (Conrad Academy High School is still in existence), where he routinely shot his team out of droughts and sparked significant runs.
Playing alongside the likes of Luguentz Dort, who is headed to Arizona State, and Austin Wiley (now a sophomore at Auburn), Farrington performed at a high level against top-shelf competition.
Chayse Culpepper, Stranahan
An athletic, hard-defending guard, Culpepper darted his way to a young Stranahan’s starting lineup as a sophomore.
The 5-foot-10 guard brings defensive tenacity underscored by his onthe ball pressure.
He adds an ability to rebound the ball surprisingly well for a player of his size.
Additionally, he’s got the bloodline working in his favor.
Culpepper is the son of former UCF star and famed Minnesota Vikings quarterback Daunte Culpepper, who authored an 11-year NFL career.
