New Life Christian recently won the state championship in Greensboro in dramatic fashion at the buzzer, many colleges have yet to hear of this group but as the year has gone on smaller schools have taken notice. Not only would we like to congratulate the Monarchs on their state championship but also we would like to take a moment to recognize some of their players who have played well this season.

Sophomore Guard Reggie Walton: From day one he’s been one of the leaders of this squad and plays the game with a chip on his shoulder. In the state championship game he knocked down a three point shot at the buzzer to give New Life the win and to call themselves state champs.

Sophomore Wing Reggie Raynor: The potential he has to be good is scary, at about 6’4 with athletic ability and an improved jump shot you can see why he is an interesting prospect. Consistency is the next step for Raynor, colleges will want to see him perform on the same level on a nightly basis.

Senior Wing Devantae Gathers: One of the most athletic players on the team, he makes plays above the rim on both ends of the floor and plays with a high amount of intensity. FTCC, Wake Tech, and other Junior college programs have all taken notice to what he can bring to the table.

Senior Guard Arshon King: This is his first season at New Life and he has fit in very well, initially he suffered an injury that put him out for 6 weeks but he’s been solid since his return. He has a physique that next level programs have already noticed and he’s picked up an offer for Wake Tech.

Junior Wing Latrell Jones: The improvement that he has shown in a short amount of time has been very impressive, his confidence has grown and his game has developed. Upper body wise he is very strong, athletic and can step out and shoot the ball from deep at a nice percentage.

Freshman Guard Pharell Davis: Although he is the youngest player on the team, he has shown a nice amount of upside and potential. Talent wise we would describe him as a three point specialist, but we feel that with his height and wingspan he has the potential to be a good defender.
