NCHSAA Round 2 East Region Standout Players
Hoke County’s Trio put together nice production in their matchup with Apex to move them on to the next round. Senior Guard Dakari Johnson led the squad in scoring with 25 points and is still a player that more colleges should be on. Freshman Guard Jaquantae Harris finished with 15 points, Harris has gotten better each game this season and will be one that colleges should keep a close eye on over the spring and summer. The lefty can play the PG spot but also can slide over and play off the ball due to his athleticism and scoring ability.
Southern Lee HS Junior Guard Phillip Martin finished with 18 points in a win, we saw him for the first time over the summer and he has been solid throughout. They had to matchup with a very feisty Clayton squad so his performance was very much needed.
Farmville Central Sophomore Guard Justin Wright continued his stellar play with 38 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assist and 5 steals in a win that sends them to the round of 16. Justin has stepped up and taken over as the team leader after the graduation of Tyler Maye, be on the lookout for Justin this spring.
Overhills HS season ended on Thursday night but it was not due to a lack of effort from their star guard Zavian McLean. He went for 36 points on the night and has created some nice buzz for himself this season that should have his name on the tracking list for colleges this spring.
J.H Rose Sophomore Guard Creighton Lebo has been putting up nice numbers the entire season, averaging nearly 20 points per night this year. Against Terry Sanford there was no difference as he went for 30+ points in this matchup, he’s one to keep a close eye on in the coming years.
Northside-Jacksonville Senior Demetrius Jones had a big time night for his team as the Monarchs blew out East Wake. Jones scored for 24 points and pulled down 10 rebounds in the win and has provided a nice spark to the squad since he has returned from injury.
New Hanover HS Senior Guard Ramello Williams had a bigtime night when his team needed the production from him scoring 24 points with 10 coming in the third quarter. Williams is a player that we got the chance to see multiple times over the summer and should be on the watch list for schools at the D2, D3 and NAIA levels as well as smaller JUCOs.
Terry Sanford HS Senior Wing Holt Walker finished with 20 points and picked up another offer from Saint Andrews University to add to the offers from FTCC and Pitt CC that he already has. His ability to stretch the floor with his shooting his what schools at the NAIA and D3 levels will like about him.
