NCHSAA 2A East Region Matchups!
The 2A Eastern division has a high amount of games that have a chance to be interesting as well as games that college coaches should keep an eye on. Lets take a look at some of the favorites as well as some of the teams that may possibly pull of an upset.
Kinston vs Beddingfield: Kinston is the heavy favorite, and comes into the state tournament with a record of 20-4. Beddingfield has been a team that has underachieved pretty much all season but has talent and will need to play their best game of the year to keep the game close. Regardless though this Kinston squad should handle business but if Beddingfield can bring their A game that should make things interesting.
Greene Central vs St.Pauls: These two teams matched up last season, and will see each other again tonight in the first round of the tournament. Greene Central is a team that is loaded with talent and has a chance to make a run at a state title, with the crowd in their gym packed to capacity on almost a nightly basis, we can expect this team to come out firing on ally cylinders.
Carborro vs James Kenan: Despite their playoff seedings of 13 and 20, these teams have a win/loss record that could possibly make things interesting. James Kenan has played against top teams this season which includes one of the highest overall seeded teams in Clinton HS so clearly the squad is battle tested. The key for this game will be rebounding, in the games James Kenan came up short , they got outrebounded by a wide margin.
Farmville Central vs Bertie: The young Farmville squad begins their journey tonight in the state playoffs with a matchup against Bertie HS. Farmville has put together a record of 19-3 this season with a squad composed mostly of freshman and sophomores while Bertie is 9-15 on the season. With a young team there is always a question mark about what may happen but we fully expect the Jaguars to advance.
Trask vs Southwest Onslow: The teams are not strangers to each other, with Trask HS dominating their conference all year long, they will look to use that momentum going into the first round of the playoffs. Southwest Onslow has not had their best season but at 12-12 they are not a team that will be an easy out.
Goldsboro vs First Flight: Goldsboro comes into this game as the favorites with a 20 win season but if there was a team that you don’t want to face in the first round of the playoffs it would be First Flight. Their run and gun style of play will not only test your ability to defend but it will also exploit defensive mishaps, this game has a chance to be interesting if First Flight catches fire.
