Prep Hoops took in the action yesterday at Brunswick Community College for the opening round games of the Mideastern Conference Tourney.

Tyler Steinman

New Hanover HS the #1 seed cruised to a opening round victory over North Brunswick 81-44. Tyler Steinman led the Wildcats 21-4 with 14 points. Steinman connected on 4 three pointers. Jalen Anderson added 13 points.

Freddie Taylor

Freddie Taylor (2018) 12 points and Scotty Deffenbaugh 10 points. Josh Aldrich (2018) added 9 points, Hayden Edgar (2018) 3 points  Ramello Williams (2018) made a basket to finish with 2 points. The Tigers played everyone on the bench and many starters saw very limited minutes.

Ashley HS defeated crosstown rival 57-51 to move onto play New Hanover HS on Wednesday. The Screaming Eagles were led in scoring by Mikai Stanley (2020) with 13 points. Reece Edwards (2020) scored 12 points for the Laney Buccaneers who fell to 14-11 on the season. Edwards made 4 three pointers. This was the 4th meeting of the season between these two schools.

Chris Toudle

Hoggard HS the #2 seeded team had little problem with the Topsail Pirates 61-42. Chris Toudle (2019) was big in the middle all night long for the Vikings. Toudle finished the game with 19 points and 18 rebounds. Sophomore duo Jhamir Shaw and Sebastian Haidera added 10 and 8 points respectively. The Vikings move to 15-10 on the season.

Jamison Long #15

The lone bright spot for the Pirates is Jamison Long (2020) finished with 9 points. Long converted 3-3 from behind the arc.

The nightcap feature a hostile crowd between the battle of Brunswick County in South Brunswick HS vs West Brunswick HS. The Cougars prevailed for the 2nd time in 5 days and swept the 3 games this season between the 2 schools 48-38. The Cougars were led in scoring by Kareem Randolph (2018) with 15 points and Jace McKenney (2019) chipped in with 12 points. The Cougars will now play Hoggard HS on Wednesday in the semifinals.

J’vian McCray

The West Brunswick HS Trojans fall to 12-13 were led in scoring by Rasheed Daniels and J’vian McCray both with 9 points. McCray just a sophomore has already received Power 5 football recruitment.
