Jan 29: Cleveland Central Catholic (46) at St. Vincent-St. Mary (41)
Our #9 team in Division I beat the reigning D-II State Champion on their home court to start the week. The Jackson twins combined for 27 points to lead the Ironmen. Meanwhile, no players scored more than seven points for STVM, per Cleveland.com.
Jan. 30: Northland (72) at Beechcroft (86)
Beechcroft silenced Northland for the second time this season behind a balanced scoring night where all five senior starters scored in double-digits, per 270 Hoops. It was the seventh win in a row from the Cougars.
Jan. 30: Waite (52) at Rogers (70)
Sophomores Ketaan Wyatt and Da’Sean Nelson showed promise as Rogers dominated a Toledo City League game on Tuesday.
Jan. 30: Africentric (56) at Eastmoor Academy (70)
Taevion Kinsey, who received an offer from Kent State this weekend, scored 30 points as EA remained undefeated against Columbus City League opponents.
Feb. 2: Hughes (39) at Taft (61)
Taft avenged an early season loss with a blowout victory over their CMAC rival. After starting 0-3, Taft is now 12-5 with quality wins over Hughes and Woodward (twice).
Feb. 2: Benedictine (63) at Lake Catholic (56)
Lake Catholic lost their third-straight game after starting the season 12-1. The comeback victory was led by Benedictine senior guard Chris Jefferson’s 23 points, per Cleveland.com.
Feb. 2: Cornerstone Christian (64) at Gilmour Academy (61)
This road win for CCA is another example of their unique résumé at the Division IV level. Furman signee Mike Bothwell hit the game winner on the road, adding to his legacy in NEO.
Feb. 2: Minster (44) at Marion Local (70)
Marion Local stayed undefeated in the MAC, led by 37 total points from Nathan Bruns and Tyler Mescher, per the Dayton Daily News. The Flyers are shaping up to be Division IV contenders come playoff time.
Feb. 2: Lakewood St. Edward (77) at Lutheran East (72)
St. Eds won their fourth game in a row to move to 15-3 over a tough Lutheran East team. Although the Falcons are 7-9, they’re plenty talented enough to make a run in Division III.
Feb. 3: Upper Arlington (44) at Dublin Coffman (41)
With four seconds left, Dane Goodwin crossed over from left to right and dribbled towards the corner. He pump faked but a Coffman defender remained glued to him. Goodwin had to rise up for the 3-pointer anyway. Good. Ball-game. The Notre Dame signee finished with 19 points, per 270 Hoops.
Feb. 3: Africentric (43) at McNicholas (38)
McNicholas came into the week at 15-1 but dropped this one and a game to La Salle on Tuesday. Africentric, a Division III team, is trending the other direction having beaten McNick, Gahanna, and Columbus South these past two weeks.
Feb. 3: Marion Local (35) at Fort Loramie (47)
A scoreless third quarter from Marion Local was the difference, as Fort Loramie established themselves as the favorite in Division IV’s Southwest Ohio Region.
Feb. 3: Fenwick (60) at St. Xavier (77)
Nathan Stockman (19) and Chase Wolf (18) gave St. X a bounce-back win after they lost to Elder the night before, per the GCL South website. Fenwick has dropped three of their last four games.
Feb. 3 Moeller (56) at Springfield (39)
The 15-3 Moeller Crusaders remained undefeated in Ohio with a big-time non-conference test on the road. Junior transfer Alec Pfriem only missed one shot, scored 12 points, grabbed nine rebounds, and dished five assists, per the GCL South website. It was a tough week for Springfield, dropping two games.
Feb. 3: St. Ignatius (68) at Benedictine (77)
Senior guard Chris Jefferson went over 20 points for the second night in a row to lead Benedictine. In Davin Zeigler’s absence, sophomore Jashun Cobb scored 22 for Bene, per Cleveland.com.
