Lower State Finals – Florence,SC
Prep Hoops took in the games yesterday at the Florence Center (Not Civic Center anymore). All 3 games the teams had already played each other during the regular season at one time or another.
Class 2A Carvers Bay 69 Marion 51
The Bears defeated the Swamp Foxes for the 3rd time this season. Dijon Goss (2018) led the Bears attack with 17 points. Stephon Greene (2019) added 15 points and Janaz Sumpter (2019) put in 12 points. The Bears move to 24-2 on the season under Head Coach Jeff Mezzatesta.
The Swamp Foxes fell short once again and really struggle to get any going in the game. Freshman TJ Sanders led the way with 15 points. Sanders started off really quick before getting 2 quick fouls after scoring 10 points. Kalik Faulk finished his career with 8 points, Kayshawn Rowell added 7 points and all-region performer BJ Blue scored just 2 points. The Swamp Foxes finish the year at 21-8.
Class 3A Ridgeland-Hardeeville 51 Wade Hampton (Hampton) 46 overtime
The Jaguars tied the game with no time on the clock in regulation. Rashamel Butler went to the foul line and made 2 of 3 shots to tie the game in regulation. Butler finished with 11 points in the win. Brother Devin Butler got the hand in the 3rd quarter scoring 13 of his 19 points. The Jaguars now move to (23-1) on the season and will play Greenville Southside (22-2) on Saturday at Colonial Life Arena at 3:30 P.M.
The Red Devils finish the story book season at 15-6. Trent Terry and Samuel Gray both finished with 8 points for the Red Devils. Deondre Terry added 6 points while Rashane Duncan (2018) had quite the stat line 0 points, 13 rebounds and 6 blocks in the game.
Class 5A Irmo 49 Blythewood 48
The Yellow Jackets had lost to the Bengals twice during the season but Head coach Tim Whipple drew a play up to win at the buzzer and advance to Columbia next weekend. The Yellow Jackets will Dorman on Friday night at 8:30 in the Colonial Life Arena.
The Yellow Jackets were led in scoring by Winston Hill (2018) with 12 points and Hasuan Rivers (2018) with 11 points. Rivers hit the game winner at the buzzer.
Blythewood was held to just 13 points in the 2nd half. The Bengals finish the season at 23-3 under Head Coach Zeke Washington. Tre Jackson (2019) led the Bengals with 17 points while Robert Braswell (2018) added 14 points. Cayman Williams 9 points and Jonathan Breeland (2018) 8 points to round out the scoring.
