Games To Watch Monday-Weds of this Week!!
The State Tournament has begun for Private schools and Conference Tournaments are underway for Public schools, so what games should you go to? What matchups should you keep a close eye on? What teams could possibly pull off some upsets? Let’s take a quick look!
Pine Forest vs Cape Fear: These teams will be meeting up on Tuesday at Terry Sanford HS for the first round of the conference tournament. Both teams have good guard play with Pine Forest featuring Junior Guard Adrian Elliot who recently went for 30 points, while Cape Fear HS features Senior Guard Kevin McLaughlin who is one of the county’s overall leading scorers.
71st HS vs Lumberton: This matchup has a chance to have plenty of fireworks as these teams split through the season matchup and have a conference record that are identical. 71st will need a bigtime showing from Senior Guard Dontravious Byrd, and Junior Wing Brion McLaurin to get a win on the road. Lumberton will look to its stellar backcourt of Senior Guard Stephon Lloyd and Sophomore Guard Jordan McNeill while also depending on Junior Forward Braylan Grace to control the paint.
Kerr Vance Academy vs Wayne Christian: Kerr Vance has a situation that is pretty strange, they finished the season 24-0 but will have to win a play-in game while other teams with records that are barely above 500% winning have first and or second round byes. This could be due to their lack of bigtime teams on their schedule but one thing is for certain, they are a talented group that could do some damage. Guard play is key during tournament time and Kerr Vance features two talented Guards in Senior Mike Bowers & Senior Andreas Wilson, both who can go for 30 at any given moment. If they win their first two games, things could get very scary for opponents that have to matchup with them.
Calvary Day School vs Freedom Christian: For a 1st round game, there is a lot of talent that will be on the court as well as stellar coaching on the sideline. Calvary Day features Guard Jackson Gammons who has been outstanding all season long while Freedom Christian will need a big time day from Junior Guard Jamahri Harvey, this game has a chance to be a good one.
Westover vs EE Smith: Although Westover comes in as the higher seed, EE Smith has been playing at a much higher level as of late and will give the Wolverines some good competition. EE Smith features Senior Guard Isaac Bonds who is one of the leaders in the county in assist, as well as Junior Wing Raekwon Knuckles who has played well since his return. Westover gets it done by committee as Junior Guard Thomas Kendricks, Tyron George, and Senior Forward Jalin Thorne are all players that will have an impact on the outcome.
