St. Thomas vs North St. Paul. We make our picks on this Friday night, who are you picking to earn victories? Read our prediction/preview and then pick on Twitter who you think will win.l. Watching Goodnews Kpegeol against Sam Vascellaro will be a match-up of top 40 guys and we have a pair of top ten level teams in their respective classes. The Cadets have won five in a row and seven of eight. The Polars won the first game by two scores in overtime but the Cadets have crushed people lately and then beat Mahtomedi. I’m picking the Cadets tonight but North St. Paul hasn’t lost a game to a Minnesota team since December 21st.
Hopkins vs Edina. The Lake Conference is no joke. Edina lost two in a row recently and then took out all their frustrations on Eden Prairie earlier in the week. Now the Hornets have something to prove against Hopkins who kind of burst their bubble earlier in the year. This game though is at Edina. The Anders Nelson versus Anthony Davis battle will be good but can the young Hornets size deal with the veteran Hopkins frontline? We don’t think so. Hopkins takes it and stays number two.
Jordan at Mayer Lutheran. These are teams that take on all comers and try and schedule anybody, and often play the best. Jordan had a bad weekend (losing to Minneapolis South and Holy Family) a month ago but they have won six straight. Jordan won the first match-up by 11 but this game as in Lutheran’s gym and Jordan has the size to go at Mayer Lutheran which most teams have not. Eric Tiedman against Baden Noennig should be excellent. Ryan Samuelson vs Kobey Woolhouse will also be good. This one is almost too close to call. We say Jordan by one, maybe.
Hinckley-Finlayson at Virginia. The Jags have the edge in the backcourt with Kolton Furey, Trevor Johnson, and Anders Prater, but Virginia has Nathan Fink and young stud Jayden Bernard to counter. The Blue Devils are huge with UMD bound Ethan Youso and USD football bounce Bryce Kennedy. The Jags don’t have the size to match that in the paint but 6-foot-3 Travis Visser is their most talented guy and he’s a long wing. How the bigger Virginia team defends that will be interesting. We go with the home team.
Fridley at Columbia Heights. Two teams that started really hot but have lost some games as of late. Fridley was crushed by the Hylanders recently and it led to a four game losing streak. Now, after getting back on track with wins over Highland Park and Concordia Academy, the Tigers take on Columbia Heights who was just upset by St. Anthony. Can Fridley pull the upset tonight? Wing play will be big with Nate Soto and Jerome Cunningham going against Chris Kelly and Deundra Roberson. CH is angry and they are likely to take that anger out on Fridley.
