Frederick Douglass Academy Combining Athletic And Academic Excellence
High school athletics play a critical role in the development of young people into successful adults. The school that an athlete attends has to find a synergy between athletics and academics. Frederick Douglass Academy has found this synergy. The coaches and school are developing outstanding basketball players who are displaying a standard of excellence in the classroom as well. Frederick Douglass Academy in Detroit is going the extra mile to make sure their basketball players are receiving the best education possible. They have several mentoring programs such as Junior Male Achievement, Dream Kings, and Upward Bound at UofD. The school also uses tutoring programs to ensure success in school. Student athletes at Douglass have benefitted from small class sizes which allows them to receive individual attention. Many of the basketball players at Frederick Douglass Academy deserve recognition for their academic and athletic accomplishments.
Pierre Brooks (2021, 6-4, Wing)

Favorite Class: Algebra; Ms. Anita Colter
Brooks is a high IQ player with star instincts. He came into high school with a college build. He can play anywhere on the court, from the post to behind the arc. Brooks is a shooter with great mechanics.
Dakari Cross (2018, 5-8, G)
GPA: 3.5
Favorite Class: Finance; Mr. Okezie Iroha
Cross is a shooter, and possibly the best pure shooter on the team. He is an excellent on ball defender and is often relied on to guard the opposing teams best perimeter scorer or ball handler. Cross is a people person and a glue guy for the team.
Edward Banks (2018, 6-3, F)
GPA: 3.1
Favorite Class: English; Ms, Katrina Rimmer
Banks is a valuable piece of the team. He is the most experienced player on the roster. Banks is very versatile, having the ability to post and shoot the three.
Sean Fulton (2019, 6-1, Wing)
GPA: 3.0
Favorite Class: Algebra II; Marquita Reese
Fulton is an athlete. His athleticism is highlighted by his slashing style of play. He is a solid on ball defender who rebounds well. Fulton leads the team in steals and defelections.
Davon Allen (2019, 6-4, F)
GPA: 3.2
Favorite Class: Algebra II; Marquita Reese
Allen is a shining example for all student athletes. He bucked down academically and dramatically improved his GPA from the 1st quarter. Allen is also the quarterback and a captain on the football team. He has great leadership qualities.
