Five Good Guys (Saturday District Championships)
The final day of district tournament competition for the Class 1-3 schools took place on Saturday. The latest installment of “Five Good Guys” centers on those stellar performers from Saturday.
Jamarr Williams 6’7″ Northwest Academy: The 2018 power forward scored 23 points and grabbed 14 rebounds in the Hornets 65-61 victory over Trinity in the Class 3, District 6 championship game at Duchesne. Williams is a relentless blue-collar performer in the paint who just scores and rebounds and gets stronger as the game goes on.
Cade Combs 6’4″ Harrisburg: The 2018 guard put on one of the best performances in the state this year with 48 points and 12 rebounds in the Bulldogs 75-67 victory over host New Bloomfield in the Class 2, District 8 championship game. He even outdid his 38-point performance in last year’s district-championship victory over Eugene. He is a gamer who comes up huge in the biggest games.
Jake Branham 6’2″ Springfield Catholic: The 2019 guard scored a game-high 35 points to lead Catholic past Stafford 68-62 in the Class 3, District 10 championship game at Strafford. Branham has been one of the hottest players in the state in the past couple of weeks as he has put up some big numbers to close the season.
Trey Shannon 6’0″ Wellington-Napoleon: The 2019 guard had 28 points, seven rebounds and two steals to lead Well-Nap in a 65-44 victory over Concordia in the Class 2, District 15 championship game at Wellington. It makes eight district championships in nine years for Wellington-Napoleon.
Trenton Barbour 6’5″ Jamestown: The 2018 post player had 18 points, 12 rebounds and four blocked shots in a 44-39 victory over St. Elizabeth in the Class 1, District 9 championship game. Barbour is one of the top post players in the state at the Class 1 level.
