Final Regular Season Rankings Update
The regular season has ended, and it’s time to update the rankings in Class 3A and 4A for the final time until after the state tournament. The final week of the regular season saw some upsets, and some shakeups in the two classes. Below we detail some of the movement.
Two-time defending champions Cedar Rapids Xavier finishes the season at No. 1 in Class 3A. The Saints (15-6) look like the favorite to make it a three-peat next month in Des Moines. The rest of the top five is Mount Pleasant, Norwalk, Glenwood and Oskaloosa. Oskaloosa falls from No. 3 to No. 5 following a loss to Indianola. The lone newcomer to the rankings is Sioux City Heelan, who enters at No. 10 this week.
Dubuque Senior retains the top spot in 4A in the final poll of the year. The Rams still haven’t lost with Noah Carter in the lineup. Iowa City West moves up from No. 4 to No. 2. The Trojans have the most quality wins over any team in the state, but their head-to-head loss to Senior keeps them below the Rams here. Johnston, Pleasant Valley and Des Moines North round out the top five. All ten teams that were ranked last week are in the final rankings.
