Eastside v. Santa Fe: 6A-6 Dist. Semis – Top Performers
Last night, the Class 6A-District 6 semifinals were played at North Marion High School. Both games came down to just a possession or two. To kick things off, the favored Eastside Rams went up against the Santa Fe Raiders. The Raiders were up six with two minutes to go before the ‘Side snuck back to force TWO overtimes, ultimately winning by just a single point. Here are the five standouts from the game.
Malik Robertson – Eastside: This senior post-man was the definition of clutch, vs. Santa Fe. He walked off with 15 points, 13 of which were scored in the second half and overtime periods. In the waining moments, Robertson was able to go 7/10 from the free-throw line—including 3-for-3 between both OT’s. If he can establish position early in the district championship, watch out.
Jonathan Green – Santa Fe: Green led the game in scoring for both squads, earning 19 points on the night. He was the one player Eastside had trouble containing. His scoring was balanced the entire night, getting a bucket in all of the six periods (two OT’s). He was able to get into the midrange area, very easily. Had it not been for his consistent play, things would’ve unraveled for the Raiders.
Keanis Smart – Eastside: ENERGY. He brought it the entire night. Only seven points, but his effort in the paint on both sides of the ball spoke volumes. On a fast-break, this 6’5”, long-limbed stretch-four took it three-quarters court to slam it home on top of a defender. Woke the entire gym, up.
Saveon Webster – Santa Fe: Since the time I met him over this past summer, I’ve always been a fan of what he could do on the floor. There’s a lot of smoothness in his game. He walked away with 12 points, on the night. Webster can penetrate the paint, finish with contact, and make passing difficult by the way he plays the dishing-lanes.
James Pope – Eastside: Pope set the tone early by notching all of his 11 points in the first half. From deep, he knocked down three trey balls to keep the Raiders, at bay. He’s another that really gave consistent, hard energy from start to finish. Never gives up on the play. Love his attitude.
