Class 5A Playoff Bracket Breakdown
The Class 5A playoffs are upon us for the 2017-2018 season! This year the argument could be made that the Class 5A State Tournament might actually be the best field in the state. There are several interesting developments in the bracket. This week we start with a breakdown of Regionals!
What teams are locks to win their regional?
Tulsa Memorial, Booker T. Washington, and Northwest Classen all are locks to advance as Regional Champions in Class 5A. I would be shocked if any of those teams lost this weekend.
Who got the toughest draw?
Every year there is a team in the bigger classes that receives a bad ranking from a few coaches and falls to a spot they should not be in the playoffs. This year that team is Del City. They ended up in the Carl Albert Regional. It is a tough draw for the Eagles, but even a tougher one for Carl Albert. Normally the second rated team on the Westside in Class 5A would not have to face such a quality team that early in the playoffs. I am not calling the upset however expect this one to be very close. Del City nearly knocked off the Titans in the Championship of the Titan Classic earlier this year.
Upsets to Watch?
Del City beating Carl Albert is the biggest upset that I feel like can happen this weekend. Other possible upsets to watch for are Pryor over Coweta and Bishop Kelley over Claremore. This could be a very exciting weekend for Class 5A in Regional play.
How will the weather delay affect the playoffs?
The weather causing play to be postponed across the state makes the Regionals that were scheduled to be Friday, Saturday now Saturday and Monday. The biggest thing it changes is it gives teams more time to prepare for the Regional Championship game.
Most Exciting Player to watch in Class 5A?
Class 5A had 6 out of 10 players in the top ten ranking for the most exciting players to watch! Mason Harrell at Carl Albert is a player well worth the price of admission. He was ranked our top player to watch in the entire state in a recent poll. Click to read the article!
