5 Takeaways : Wilson vs North Myrtle Beach
The Wilson HS Tigers jumped out to a 18-3 in the first quarter after going on a 14-2 to end the quarter. The Tigers were way too much fire power for the hometown Chiefs at “The Reservation” in a 70-43 region victory. Wilson HS #1 ranked team in the Class 4-A State could stay at home for all of the playoffs if the Tigers keep advancing. The Lower State Championship are held in Florence at the Florence Center (Not Civic Center anymore).
MVP : Allen Williamson (2019) Wilson HS (pictured on front)
Williamson had the hot hand most of the night for the Tigers in the lopsided victory. Williamson finished with 17 points. Williamson a left-handed guard nailed some three pointers and also showed his ability to get to the basket.
Best Defensive Performance : Jamonty Williams (2018) Wilson HS
Williams ran the floor in stride and finished in transition. Williams 6’7 has the ability to alter and block shots on the defensive end. Williams has a nice touch from elbow and finished the game with 11 points.
Unsung Sophomore : Travis Collins (2020) North Myrtle Beach HS
Collins came off the bench and scored 13 points for the Chiefs in the loss. Collins hit some three pointers and baseline line jumpers. Collins was without the services of guard Tyron Stockdale. Stockdale was on the bench in uniform but didn’t play in the game at all for Head Coach Alvin Green.
College bound : Alex Caldwell (2018) and Ryan Carfley (2018) – Wilson HS
Caldwell and Carfley are officially off the board for schools for next season. Caldwell a point guard recently went over 1,000 career points will play in the Ohio Valley Conference at Southeast Missouri State for Head Coach Rick Ray. Carfley 6’9 will stay close to home and play at Coker College (SC) (NCAA D2) for Head Coach Aric Samuel.
Glue guy : Darius Rhodes (2018) Wilson HS
Rhodes starts for the Tigers but on a given night he has the ability to go off for 30 points. Rhodes a guard played at Hartsville HS leading up to this season. Rhodes is a bit of streaky shooter has a nice mid-range game and likes to really get out in transition for the Tigers. Rhodes scored 10 points tonight.
