2019 Holy Trinity G Dru Nickson talks recruitment, junior season and more
Holy Trinity will travel to McKeel on Thursday in the Region 2-District 7/Region 2-District 8 quarterfinal.
The Tigers lost to Melbourne Central Catholic and as the runner-up must play on the road.
One of their key pieces, junior guard Dru Nickson says he’s most proud of how the team has come together from the beginning of the season to now.
“Playing with a team full of dynamic players makes the game so much easier. I prefer to play the lead guard but if I need to I can play on the wing and score the ball,” Nickson said. “Playing with Seth [Coleman], Brandon [Schwab] and the other guys opens up everyone’s game and allows us to play freely. We are a strong defensive team and the defense leads to transition offense which is our go to.”
The 6’2″, 165-pounder says his game has matured from a simple point guard mindset to one that can facilitate the offense and score the ball as well.
Currently, Nickson has one offer on the table from Eastern Point. He’s also generated interest from Holy Cross, West Point and Eckerd.
In terms of his biggest strength, Nickson called that his ability to score at all three levels on the floor, his poise and intensity on both ends. He wants to continue to get stronger and improve his offensive and defensive game for the next level.
Nickson is speedy and that helps him push the ball in tempo. With a good cast around him, Nickson has excelled. Next season, he’ll be in for the main point guard role and that should increase his value to college programs. Look for him to have a big summer.
