2018 Updated Rankings Breakdown: NOVA Guards (Part 2)
This year, for our updated rankings breakdowns we decided to do it by area and by position. The Northern VA area and the DMV as a whole has produced some of the best basketball players in the country over the past couple of decades. With that being said, here’s a look at part two of the Northern VA guards that were ranked in the 2018 class in VA.
*Note: This list only includes players who play high school basketball in the Northern Virginia Area.
Isaiah Moore | 5’9” | Flint Hill (#90 Overall)
A tough guard who can make shots from deep, Moore is a leader and a guy who makes plays on both ends of the floor. He gets better the later the game goes on, as he typically goes from a distributing role to a scorer role when needed. He makes big shots when his team needs him to, and he has the perfect intangibles for a lead guard.
Ben Kling | 5’10” | Stone Bridge (#97 Overall)
A knock down shooter from deep, the Salisbury commit has a mix of toughness and skill set that makes him a threat to not only contribute, but be the go-to guy when he needs to. He’s a shot maker that is always moving without the ball, and with the ball he’s capable of making plays for himself and others. He should be an immediate impact next season for the Sea Gulls.
Mike Grimes | 5’10” | Potomac School (#104 Overall)
A shifty lefty guard, Grimes can score from all over the court and he’s capable of playing multiple roles. He understands spacing off the basketball, has a quick first step and deep range off the catch. He has a great IQ and is a natural leader that makes other players around him better.
Jalen Williams | 5’11” | Loudoun Valley (#110 Overall)
Williams is a blue collar guard with an extremely underrated scoring ability. He can shoot it from deep and has a stocky frame with good strength that allows him to finish at the basket through contact. He’s also a defensive stopper that can both guard the ball and rebound really well for his size on both ends.
Antonio Warner | 5’10” | Stonewall Jackson (#114 Overall)
Warner is a tough leader who makes plays on both ends and seems to step up in big situations when his team needs it most. He’s lightning quick, with a great first step and the ability to blow by defenders. He distributes well throughout the game, but also has shot making ability and attacks the cup downhill, and he’s shown that he can take over when his team needs him to most.
Colter Carton | 5’10” | Langley (#122 Overall)
Carton isn’t the most athletic guy on this list, but he is crafty, skilled and plays with a high IQ. He is money from downtown, and off the bounce he understands how to get to his spots and knock down shots from all three levels. He’s shifty, has good vision and is a dual threat guard who an make plays for himself and others.
Mekhi Hendricks | 6’1” | Highland School (#124 Overall)
Another knock down shooter from deep, Hendricks is a big time scorer who can play on and off the ball. He makes tough contested shots from all over the floor, and he’s a guy who can create for others as well. He has a toughness about him you can’t teach, and whenever his team needs a big bucket he can go get one.
