2018 Player Rankings: Baltimore Prospects (Part 6)
As we hit the halfway point of the high school season, we’ve been able to get out and see almost every prospect in the area. Unfortunately, entering the new year of 2018 means we only have a few more months to enjoy these players in their high school uniforms. If you haven’t already, be sure to get out and watch some of these tremendous student athletes. (As we reach over the top 100 mark in this article, this will be the last of this series)
Trayon Wright | 6’0 | St. Paul’s/Maryland 3D
Previous ranking: 87
New ranking: 99
Wright has been a solid floor general for the 19-10 Crusaders. He has showcased continued leadership on the floor by constantly communicating on both sides of the floor. Wright isn’t afraid to get scrappy and fight to make winning plays for his team. Offensively, he can finish around the basket well while continuing to improve on his jump shot from the outside.
Will Miller | 6’0 | Mt. Carmel
Previous ranking: 100
New ranking: 89
Although the Cougars have experienced struggles this season, Miller has been one of the lone bright spots. The senior guard has kept them in games with his ability to feel it up from deep. Miller has a very quick release and good footwork when coming off of screens. An improved area of his game has come in playing off the dribble. They’ll feature him in the offense coming off Iverson screens and attacking by putting the ball on the deck. He’s done pretty well finishing around the rim even with contact.
Dwight Felton | 6’0 | Mt. Carmel
Previous ranking: 93
New ranking: 95
Along with Miller, Felton has been a consistent threat for the Cougars. He holds the role of being more of the distributor and floor general, but with the injuries the team has faced, it has forced him to look for his own opportunities more often. He has a well-built body that allows him to finish through contact on his takes to the rim, but he can also be a capable shooting from beyond the arc off the dribble. Sometimes it gets the better of him, but Felton is a fierce competitor that plays with a lot of fire. He now just has to learn how to control it to be a very effective player and leader.
Eric Turner | 6’5 | Milford Mill/Crusader Nation
Previous ranking: 85
New ranking: 101
Even though Turner’s ranking has experienced a slight dip, his play has not since transferring from St. Frances this past summer. Turner has been a swiss army knife for the 17-3 Millers this season by being a slasher and defensive stopper on a team that prides itself on shooting what seems to be an infinite amount of three’s. Turner is a capable shooter, but has great physicality and strength to earn his baskets closer in. He has also been a pesky on ball defender and effective on the glass this year for Milford Mill.
A.J. Sawyers | 6’1 | St. Paul’s
Previous ranking: not ranked
New ranking: 102
Sawyers rounds out the St. Paul’s backcourt next to Wright to make a very formidable duo. While Wright is more of a set-up guy, Sawyers is the one who always looks to get buckets. He often times can play off Wright and his penetration by seeing open three’s come his way, but Sawyer has improved in his ability to score off the dribble whether it be in the mid-range or around the basket. He does a nice job in the passing lanes defensively and has good anticipation. Both will be crucial to St. Paul’s hopes of repeating as MIAA B Conference champions in the coming week.
