Zack Perlstein Hits Game Winner Over Rival Wood High School
Vacaville High School and Wood High School (Vacaville, CA) came into Friday’s contest tied for the top spot in the MEL conference at 4-0. Vacaville and Wood are two rival schools that have a strong hatred for each other when it comes to sports and playing for 1st place would only escalate that hate. As Wood led 47-41 with three minutes left in the game, Vacaville’s opportunity to claim 1st place by defending their home court seemed to be unlikely until a 6-0 run tied the game up. It was a low scoring game but it was far from boring as the gym was packed with fans from both schools. With the game tied at 47, Senior forward Zack Perlstein scored the game winning floater with 3 seconds left to give Vacaville a 49-47 lead, and the win to move to 1st place.
Pearlstein and senior guard Johnathon Tubbs led the team in scoring with 11 a piece, while UC Santa Barbara commit Jay Nagle led Wood in scoring with 11 of his own. Pearlstein will be headed to Cal State East Bay (Hayward, CA) in the fall to play for the Pioneers.
