Week Eight Previews and Predictions
Well, despite all the gloom with the weather there was one bright spot for this guy. A perfect 3-0 week in picks with one game cancelled due to the weekend snow storm. Hopefully this week Mother Nature will be much more kind to the state of Ohio, as there are some quality games on the docket for this week. Included in the list of games for this week are two with important conference implications. Here are the Previews and Predictions for week eight.
Last Week: 3-0
Season: 14-6
Woodward (7-4, 3-1) at Hughes (10-2, 4-1), Friday 7:30pm: Big Red will be looking for revenge after losing the season-opener at Woodward in December. But both teams have been on different paths of late with the Bulldogs losing three in a row and Hughes coming winners of there last two. The debut of 2018 PHO #56 DJ Brewton (15 points) on Monday at the Flyin To the Hoop gives Coach Wyant squad the most versatile starting five in Cincinnati. Will Woodward be able to match the fire-power of Hughes?
Prediction: Hughes
Elder (6-6, 0-1) at St. Xavier (8-4, 0-1), Friday 7:30pm: The GCL-South only plays 6 conference games, so every game has extra importance to it. That is why if both teams hope to contend with Moeller for the league title, this is a must win game. Elder has another important game this week playing west side rival Oak Hills on Tuesday, so a hangover could be in effect for the Panthers. Not to mention they play a team with NCAA D-I size at every position. Whoever controls the pace will walk out the victor in this match-up.
Prediction: St. Xavier
McNicholas (11-0, 4-0) at Purcell Marian (9-4, 2-2), Saturday 7:30pm: A game that was rescheduled from last Friday due to Mother Nature. The top two teams in the GCL Co-Ed Central Division who are the top two teams in Cincinnati. Coach Scott Kerr squad must contain the senior duo of Ryan Reidy (PHO #178) and Cole Burdick, who combine to average close to 30ppg for the Rockets. Purcell leading scorer Javonta Lyons (15.5ppg) is coming off a 26 point, 8-8 from the field performance in there win over LaSalle January 9th.
Prediction: Purcell
