Tuesday Games to Watch (SD)
As we come upon the last couple days in January, PHD takes a look at the games to watch on Tuesday night in South Dakota.
Top Game to Watch:
Flandreau @ Dell Rapids 7:45 p.m.
Dell Rapids and Flandreau square off in Dell Rapids on Tuesday and if you are in the area it’s definitely a game to go see. They both have two opponents in common, Madison and Tea Area. Dells lost in 2OT’s to Tea Area while Flandreau pulled one out against Tea Area in the Hanson Classic a couple of weekends ago. Both have the size in the post with Dell Rapids 6’9 junior Logan Heim and Flandreau’s 6’6 senior Dylan LeBrun. Dell Rapids senior Mason Schmidt had 28 against Vermillion last Friday and as a team shot 53 percent from the three-point area. Jeffrey Schuch posted a double-double for the Quarriers with 18 points, 10 rebounds and 5 blocks. Heim also had a double-double with 14 points and 13 rebounds. Flandreau upset Tea Area in the Hanson Classic and then dominated Garretson 72-32 three days later. LeBrun hasn’t disappointed this year with several thunderous dunks to wow the crowds. He nearly had a triple-dub against Tea Area finishing with 32 points, 11 rebounds, and eight assists. LeBrun is very efficient with the shots he takes as he went 9-of-16 from the field and 13-of-16 at the foul line.

Other Notable Game to Watch:
Beresford @ Vermillion 8 p.m.
In 12 games through the 2017-18 season, Vermillion’s A.J. Plitzuweit has averaged about 32.3 points per game, 8.7 rebounds per game, 4 assists a game. He’s not only put up a school record of 52 points earlier this season but he’s doing it on 52 percent shooting from the field and 42 percent from downtown. The dude is automatic from the free-throw line shooting 88 percent. His Tanagers will go up against a Beresford team who has had an up and down season so far. At 5-8 the Watchdogs have had a couple close game against top-notch teams like Madison in which they kept it close until the fourth quarter and ultimately only lost 55-38. They are relatively young with only 3 seniors this year. Senior Sam Nelson had a highlight buzzer beater from just a couple steps in from half court earlier this season to secure their first win of the year against Chester Area. Can Beresford pull the upset and turn the season around in the second half of the year? Will Plitzuweit fill the stat sheet? Will Beresford be able to stop AJ?
