Top Performers: Booker vs. Lakewood Ranch
Lakewood Ranch has had a brutal schedule as of late which has included games against Memphis East, Georgia Pebblebrook, Virginia John Marshall, Georgia Buford, Orlando Christian Prep and Rockledge.
So, on Wednesday night when Booker came for a visit, the Mustangs were prepared.
Lakewood Ranch took down the Tornadoes 94-73 in front of a sold-out crowd. The Mustangs improve to 11-4 while Booker falls to 13-2.
Here are the top performers from the night.
Damien Gordon (Lakewood Ranch)
The senior Eckerd commit scored the game’s first seven points. Gordon ended the night with 27 points which included 20 at the half. The 6’1″ guard took full command of his offensive unit. He most impressively had success in transition that made life awfully tough for Booker.
Jordan Curtis (Booker)
Jordan Curtis was cruising along in the opening half before he fell hard. The 6’1″ senior guard chipped part of one of his front teeth. The trainer came over to save his tooth and he eventually returned to the game after being taken care of on the sidelines. Nonetheless, Curtis finished with 33 points, 23 coming in the first half. His shooting ability is highly impressive.
Keon Buckley (Lakewood Ranch)
It seems like Keon Buckley always brings energy to his team. The 6’0″ sophomore guard had 21 points in this game with 13 coming in the second half, including two 3’s. Buckley is being groomed for the future at Lakewood Ranch, but he’s already a true threat for the Mustangs as a starter.
Johnnie Williams (Booker)
Both senior Jack Kelley and junior Josh Young did their best to slow down Johnnie Williams in the first half. Williams came alive in the second half with 11 of his 15 points. The 6’4″ junior forward is athletic as they come. He’s definitely a 2019 player to monitor as he continues to progress.
Evan Spiller/Christian Shaneyfelt (Lakewood Ranch)
Both Evan Spiller and Christian Shaneyfelt paced the Mustangs offense with 12 points of their own. At any point in a game, Spiller, Shaneyfelt or the others mentioned previously (Gordon and Buckley) can take over for Lakewood Ranch. Spiller and Shaneyfelt made smart decisions around the basket and set up plenty for their team.
King Winkfield (Booker)
Just a freshman, 5’10” guard King Winkfield netted all 10 of his points in the second half. He provided a clear spark for the Tornadoes. I think Booker has to find a way to get him on the floor. His jump shot has a quick release and he would be dangerous as a spot up shooter.
