The Colts enter the contest at Talking Stick Arena (home of the Phoenix Suns) on a nine-game winning streak while the Falcons are led by Seniors Travis Evans (6’2” 14.5ppg) and Noah Farnsworth (6’3” 14.2ppg).
North Pointe opened the game in 2-3 zone. 18-8 Casteel advantage after 1. The Colts continued to up the intensity in the 2nd quarter using a trapping zone defense to take a 26-9 lead into the halftime locker room. The second half was more of the same as the Falcons struggled to generate any offense which unfortunately led to a running clock in the fourth quarter. In the end the Colts came away with a dominant 61-21 victory.
Best Post: Austin Ponsness (Casteel)- the junior did a great job of being physical on the inside with solid rebounding. Also was the on ball defender in the Colt’s full court press.
Best Block: Emmanuel Peinado (North Pointe)- the 6’0” senior rejected a first quarter shot and sent it 4 rows into the courtside seats of Talking Stick Arena.
Bright Future: Deven Franks (Casteel)- the Sophomore comes off the bench and provides offensive punch for the Colts. Easy to see why he averages nearly double figures at 9.6ppg.
Pest PG: Joe Soriano (North Pointe)-was impressed by his toughness and decision making. Has a good handle and finishes well around the rim.
Best Offense: Chris York (Casteel 6’0” 13.7ppg)- after a relatively quiet first half York got hot in the 3rd hitting two 3-pointers and a floater.
