The Talent: Booker T. Washington vs Jenks
Going into the third place game at the Jenks/Union Invitational Booker T. Washington was heavily favored. Booker T has some of the best players in the state and are hard to beat depending on how unselfish their good players play. Jenks did not let this scare them though. They stood toe to toe with Hornets and played them tightly. They played with heart and gave Booker T. Washington a game. The Hornets took control of the game on one possession in the second quarter. In one possession Booker T. scored 10 points because of two technical fouls and two three pointers. After that Jenks had to play catch up for the rest of the game. In the second half Jenks starting chipping away at the lead little by little. They closed the gap to single digits late in the fourth quarter, but could not complete the comeback as they fell 79-68.
Jaycson Bereal 2018 Booker T. Washington Wing
Bereal was quiet in the first quarter tonight against Jenks. After that however Bereal took over the game. The Boise State commit showed why he is so highly rated. He took over in the second quarter with the Hornets running him in an isolation set. No one on the Trojan team could match up against Bereal and he took advantage. He attacked the basket again and again until Jenks finally sent a double team to try to stop him. In the second half, Bereal was just as good. On top of that he added what is probably the Dunk of the Year! He jumped from just inside the free throw line and threw down a monster over a Jenks defender. Bereal finished with a game-high of 22 points.
Seth Hurd 2019 Booker T. Washington Forward
The mismatches were bad for Jenks. No one on the Jenks is taller than 6’4 and they had trouble guarding the Hornets in the post. Hurd was the opposite of Bereal and the fed off each other. They dominated down low. Hurd showed his sneaky athleticism to get buckets throughout the night. He went up strong and finished at the basket throughout the night. He finished with 17 points on the night.
Bryce Thompson 2020 Booker T. Washington Guard
Thompson had a sub-par night compared to most of his nights. He still showed why he is a High Major Division I recruit. He was getting hounded throughout the night and still managed to fight through it to have an impact on the game. Thompson finished with 11 points on the night.
Eli Harris 2018 Jenks Guard
Harris was the key for Jenks against Booker T. Washington. He started the game strong and was consistent throughout the night. His athleticism was the reason Jenks was able to keep Thompson and Phipps relatively quiet on the night. He was on fire from the field and found his stroke. He finished the game with a tied game-high of 22 points. Harris is an intriguing prospect that small colleges should keep their eye on.
