Big Game to Watch
No. 8 Shiloh vs. Heart River. We’ve seen Heart River take on power players in Region 7. They fell to Beulah and Dickinson Trinity. Now, we get to see how they perform against a team from outside of Region 7.
Shiloh will bring size, experience, depth and shooting to the game. Heart River hasn’t faced a team with a big guy over 6-foot-6 this year. They’ll have to deal with 6-foot-8 junior center Macauley Young tonight.
Heart River is also coming off a loss where Cauy Shypkoski struggled to get going. Shypkoski only scored 9 points in Heart River’s loss to Dickinson Trinity Thursday night. Now, he’ll be trying to get it going in a game vs. a strong man-to-man defensive team.
Heart River is going to need production out some extra players. Caleb Chruszch and Jayden Krivoruchka and Shypkoski won’t be able to carry all the scoring weight. Someone will need to step up for them to win.
Shiloh junior point guard Canaan Fagerland is one of the most under-rated players in the state. He does his job and runs the team well. If he gets going early and is feeling it Heart River will be in for a long night.
Key Player to Watch
Fagerland is a key player in this game. Fagerland is a strong point guard who has a sneaky burst and understands the game.
Region 7 Sidenote
Hazen had Beulah on the ropes until the final six minutes of the game. Beulah went on an 11-0 run to win 71-55. Beulah senior shooting guard Logan Miller broke through his slump with 19 pts. Derek Ferebee led all scorers with 26 points for Beulah. Mason Dolbec (11) and Aaron Vallejo (10) proved they can score in double-digits.
Hazen showed they can be a young and gritty team. Peyton Leintz, a senior guard, didn’t play with an injury in the game.
Standing Rock vs Glen Ullin-Hebron – Both of these teams have losing records. Standing Rock played most of their early season games in South Dakota. So, there’s a lot to learn about them. Glen Ullin-Hebron is coming off a win and Braden Zuroff has dropped 20 plus in consecutive games.
Bowman County vs Underwood – Underwood is only one game under .500 on the year. Ty Snyder, an Underwood sophomore, is showing some nice things on the floor. Bowman may get a little bit surprised by Underwood in this game. Bowman will have to keep tabs on Synder.
Killdeer vs Flasher – Killdeer is off to a surprising start this year at 6-3. They’re trying to keep their winning streak going. Flasher is well coached and they’ve already got a quality win over TLMM this year.
Richardton-Taylor vs. Grant County – Both programs are struggling at this point. Both teams know this is a realistic shot at a win, so it should be competitive.
New England vs. New Salem-Almont – Both of these teams are on losing streaks right now. This is a chance for either team to break out of the losing strike.
Dickinson Trinity vs. Linton-HMB – If you like Class B coaching legends this is the game to watch. Gregg Grinsteinner and Dan Carr both have state titles and carry a lot of respect around the state. This game will matchup two great coaching minds.
Mott-Regent vs. Solen – Both of these teams are trying to take it to the next level. The mountain for Mott-Regent is Dickinson Trinity and Beulah. The Mountain for Solen is TLMM’s zone and Shiloh. We’ll get to see which team is closer to scaling their biggest challenges.
Hettinger-Scranton vs Bison (SD) – Hettinger-Scranton is trying to get back on the horse. They suffered a tough loss to Beulah at home want to get back to winning before the heart of Region 7 play starts for them.
