Recruiting Spotlight: 2019 Jarred Hyder
In the 1970’s, 80’s, and 90’s much of the elite talent in Southern California resided in the Los Angeles area. Such schools as Crenshaw, Manual Arts, Dorsey, Fairfax, and later on Westchester ruled the roost as they say when it came to basketball dominance. Well, the demographics have changed my dear hoop-a-holics as much of the talent has ventured east to the Inland Empire—including up-and-coming Cajon High School.
Cajon has a plethora of talent including football standouts like 6-foot-5 senior Jeremiah Martin and 6-foot-8 junior Darren Jones.
“The football guys (Martin and Jones) will help us a bunch in the areas of rebounding and sparking our transition game,” notes Hyder.
However, the most consistent Cajon player we saw at The Classic at Damien was a junior by the name of Jarred Hyder.
Hyder is one of the better sleeper types in the Class of 2019Hyder is an under-the-radar junior who had one of the many impressive performances at The Classic at Damien. He is a 6-foot-2 sharp shooter who has a bright future in this game. He excels in transition where he stop on a dime and nail the mid-range pull-up. He gets great lift on his shot and his range extends out to 20-feet.
“Overall, my shooting is my strength, especially my dribble pull-up,” explains Hyder.
Hyder had his jumper humming from everywhere and he’s a quality athlete as well, but there are areas of the game that he knows that need attention if he is going to take that next step in his game.
“I need to see the floor and improve my facilitating skills to take my game to a new level,” explains Hyder.
Due to his team success as well as receiving quality skill development from his club team (Team Eleate), colleges are beginning to notice Hyder’s talents.
“It’s early in the process, but Boise State, Cal Baptist, and UC Riverside are showing me the most interest right now,” explains Hyder. After witnessing Hyder’s act over the holidays, I believe that Hyder is just scratching the surface of his potential and with his determined mindset, I have full confidence he’ll get there.
