Recruiting Report: Will Schmidt (2018)
Totino-Grace power forward Will Schmidt is scoring 16 a game and giving the Eagles a consistent scoring option. Schimdt is also talking to many of the area D3 programs.
“Things are off to a good start,” Schmidt said about the stat of the season. “Everything is starting to come together and everyone is fitting into their role.
“We still have a lot of work to do to get to where we want to be but we have grown a lot as a team so far. I am super excited to see where we will be at the end of the season.
“I have already learned a lot from Nick (Carroll) and he has my trust in everything he is doing. He continues to push me to be the best player I can be.”
Will had a season high of 35 points against St. Louis Park and has been scoring regularly since a rough start to the season.
“I have continued to work on my jump shot as well as getting to the hoop more,” Will said. “I have also worked on getting better defensively and hitting the glass hard. My confidence has increased which has definitely helped improve my game.”
The Eagles are 6-4 on the season but have a stretch of Park Center, Hopkins, and Osseo and that is after losing to Maple Grove. The Eagles have a veteran team though and they expect to have a strong season that leads to competing in the very deep Section 4AAA.
“We have six returning seniors. We are all very close on and off the court. We play well together and push each other to get better everyday. We have the skills and experience to do big things this season and can’t wait to see what it brings.
“Our long term goal as a team is to make it to state. We talk about it all the time and know that it’s obtainable. To accomplish this goal we need to communicate both offensively and defensively and continue to work hard and get better everyday.
“I am working on stepping up and becoming the best leader I can be for the team.”
Schmidt is also looking at college basketball options where several programs are keeping regular tabs on him.
“I have visited St. Thomas, St. Olaf, Augsburg, Winona State and Jamestown,” Will said. “I have also been in contact with Bethel, Sioux Falls, UW-Stout, Hamline, and Waldorf. I am waiting to hear back from a few additional schools and plan to visit within the next month.”
