Recruiting Report: Spencer Pettit (2018)
One of the best 2A teams in the state may have the most efficient scorer in the state on their team. Covington sits at 15-1, with only a one point loss to West Lafayette and senior Spencer Pettit is a big reason that they are playing really good basketball. Pettit is a 6’5 forward who can play both forward positions due to his quickness and length.
“As a team we are playing great, still room for much improvement, but we have had some players step up this year that have made a huge impact,” Pettit said.
Pettit is a long wing who can put the ball on the floor and drive to the rim, but he also can shoot the jumper which has really helped him offensively this year as he is averaging 19.9 points a game and shooting at an outstanding pace. Inside the arc, Pettit is at 65 percent and behind the arc he has made 31-of-72. Pettit is a guy that can shoot off the bounce or on the catch and at a high percentage in either. Pettit has made some important improvements from last year to this year that have helped his game a ton.
“I’ve grown two inches since my junior year, and became leaner so I have a quicker first step which helps me get to the bucket and I’ve improved my finishing,” Pettit said.
Pettit’s recruiting is going slow but there are a few schools interested such as Aurora, Bethel, and Marian. The schools have all gave him things to work on to play at the next level and with Pettit’s work ethic, it is sure that he will work on them through this season and the summer.
“They like that I can score from everywhere on the court, but I need to improve my defense and get stronger,” Pettit said of the things he needs to improve on.
Pettit knows he wants to play at the next level and he’ll have that opportunity soon. Every NAIA in the state should be watching him play as he’s an efficient scorer who can put the ball on the floor. At the next level, Pettit knows what he is looking for in a future school.
“I’m looking to get an education that will allow me to get the job I want and be successful, as for athletics I just want a school that will give me a great experience of playing at the next level and will make me the best basketball player I can be.”
