Recruiting Report: Ryan Rose (2018)
In May 2017, Las Vegas native and Bethel 6’2” guard Ryan Rose (2018) rattled off 15 schools who were showing interest at the next level. After several visits in the fall and gauging colleges’ level of interest in the early season, Rose has identified front-runners.
“I kind of have a top five right now that have come and watched me play and stuff. I don’t really have it in order but its Wittenberg, Ohio Northern, Capital, Marietta, and Otterbein,” Rose said.
“They just have pretty much shown the most interest and they’ve come to a lot of games. Wittenberg has been to two games. Northern has been to three. Capital has been to three. Otterbein has been to two. Marietta is a little farther so it’s harder for them, but they’ve still been to one.”
Rose took visits to all five of these universities. He’ll wait until after the season to make a decision, and there’s even a chance he won’t pick any of those options.
“I’m waiting to see if I get anything because a couple of D-II schools. Like I know Findlay called my coach, my high school coach and AAU coach.” Rose continued, “I know they’ve talked to Tiffin. And then I’ve heard a little bit from University of Illinois Springfield … Lourdes has been texting me a lot.”
Rose told us that a visit to Lourdes should take place, as they’re hoping to bring him on campus.
He’s played an expanded role since teammate Caleb South went down with an injury, proving capable as a primary ball-handler and scorer off the dribble. Without his running mate in the backcourt, Rose has lead Bethel to a 10-2 start. Now a dynamic scoring threat (whereas we thought of Rose as a catch-and-shoot specialist in the summer), Rose continues to become more recruitable at the D-II and NAIA level.
South was recently cleared to play, so Rose will slide back into a two-guard role. Rose’s development as a shot creator will make Bethel a handful in the Division III postseason.
Their next game is on Friday against National Trail at home.
