Recruiting Report: Matt Krause (2018)
Matt Krause – 6’6” | W/F | West Lafayette High School | Class of 2018
Matt Krause is a matchup nightmare for most teams that the Red Devils play throughout the season. With his length and ability to shoot the long ball, he is a versatile scoring threat around the basket and from deep. Krause is finishing up his senior season at West Lafayette High School and has been playing at a high level posting 15.6 points and 5.5 rebounds per game in the 2017-2018 season.
Krause has helped his team to a 10-3 record and an undefeated conference record to date. “Right now, I think we have a chance to win (conference) if we can beat Tipton.” With Matt’s ability to score the ball efficiently at all three levels, other guys are able to play their game and fill in the gaps.
One thing that has helped this team with early season success is their coachability and willingness to do the little things. “Sticking together and being a unit. When we are all together and playing for each other, we are tough to beat.” Matt has always been keen on playing for the guy standing next to him and has never been about his own numbers and success over the team’s.
“I’m looking for a place that I feel comfortable with teammates and coaches.” Matt has the talent and skill set to be an immediate impact player at the next level. His size, length, basketball IQ, and skills will translate directly. He’s looking to get into the business/management field in college and has seen a mixture of DIII schools in contact and become options at the next level.
Matt is great at the wing and forward position because he can float to the three-point line on a drive from the guard but he can also reposition himself for an easy layup or dunk around the basket. He has great hands and rebounds the ball well on both backboards. Krause mixes it up on offense depending on his matchup. With his size, he sees shooting guards and small/power forwards on a nightly basis. He can take advantage of most situations because of his diverse offensive package.
“I’m working on staying aggressive throughout the whole game and trying to put in some back to the basket moves when I’m down low once in a while. I thought the first half went well and I hope to build on that in the second half of the season.”
Matt Krause is a consistent forward who can hurt opposing team’s in a multitude of ways on offense. He is a corner sharp-shooter and can finish around the basket with a soft touch. Keep an eye on the Red Devils as they look to continue with their success behind their senior leader.
