Recruiting Report: Jonas Mitzel (2018)
When it comes to the schedule few in the state can top what Shiloh Christian faces. And Jonas Mitzel is the guy dropping threes for the Skyhawks.
“So far this year I’ve learned that we have a very talented group of young guys that are ready to play hard every game,” Mitzel told PHD. “We suffered injuries to a few players in the football season but younger guys have stepped up and filled the missing rolls. We have a nice sized athletic team that can get up and run and play well in the half court.”
Wins over Trinity, Bottineau, Our Redeemer, and others and close final possession losses to Oak Grove and Bishop Ryan have led to the 7-2 mark.
“We have a tough schedule this year as we plan to face many tough teams,” Jonas said. “The toughest one however coming up will probably be against Stanley.
“They are one of the top rated teams and we know that’s going to be a battle and we are looking forward to it but for now we are taking it one game at a time.”
Jonas leads this very balanced team in scoring with just over 11 points per game followed by the 11 a game from his brother Jaden Mitzel, near 11 a game from Bartholomew Ogbu (who is now done for the season after scoring 24 against Heart River to end his career), 9.5 a game from Canaan Fagerland, and eight a game from Macauley Young.
“Right now my self goal is to be a leader for the under classmen,” Mitzel said as he is the lone senior left on his team.
“I want to help them out throughout the year and help and lead them the best I can. For team goals I want us to make it to the state tournament this year and compete for a chance to win it all.”
Jonas wants to play college basketball and has talked to four different programs about the next level.
“As of right now I’m busy with basketball so I haven’t had a lot of spare time to talk to coaches but I have talked with coaches before the season,” Jonas said. “U of Mary, Jamestown, Bismarck State, and Crown College. Right now I am not for sure where I want to attend.”
