Recruiting Report: Gage McGuire (2019)
Unique players are incredibly valuable. It’s rare to find a player that has qualities or skills that very few competitors have. Gage McGuire is one of these unique athletes. The Coldwater High School junior is the definition of versatile.
Gage McGuire is a 6-6 guard/forward. Although to be completely accurate, he can play any of the five positions on the floor. McGuire has the ball handling skills to bring it up the court and has the three point shot of an elite shooting guard. He has the athleticism and shiftiness of a wing player and the size and strength of a dominant post player. McGuire is a solid passer and he’s able to deliver the ball from anywhere on the court. He can pass on the perimeter and dish off in the paint with equal efficiency. His versatility is a matchup nightmare for opponents. In a game over the summer, I saw a coach try to guard him with a total of six different players. He demonstrated great improvement over the summer with Greenwood Elite and proved that he has the potential to keep improving at a rapid rate.
Gage McGuire is playing this season with his goals in mind. He is firmly focused on a state championship and feels as if his team is underrated and very capable. McGuire hopes to win conference championships each of the next two seasons. He also wants to become the all time leading scorer and rebounder at Coldwater High School. McGuire is eyeing a full ride scholarship and getting his degree in criminal justice. He then wants to go to law school. McGuire is also hopeful that he will have the opportunity to play basketball overseas.
Gage McGuire’s recruitment is underway. He has had visits to Ferris State University and Grand Valley State University. He has been recruited by Kalamazoo College as well. Wheeling Jesuit has shown an interest in McGuire. The list of schools should continue to grow.
Gage McGuire has a lot to offer a college basketball program. Obviously being able to play any position on the floor is huge for a college program. Don’t forget, a coach at the next level will also get a great student and natural leader. McGuire has the type of court demeanor that draws in his teammates and makes everyone believe that they will be successful. The motivation and guidance he has received from his mom shines through in the way he works and conducts himself.
Gage McGuire should be talked about more often with the elite players in his class. Division 2 college coaches that want a hard working and versatile athlete should be calling McGuire today. Over the next year and a half his recruitment should get very heavy and he will have multiple offers.
