Recruiting Report: Destin Whitaker (2020)
Romeoville 2020 shooting guard Destin Whitaker the physical tools at 6’4” with length and athleticism. His jump shot is his biggest weapon. He has a quick release on his shot and gets tons of elevation off the floor both off the catch and pulling up. Seems when he hits his first shot or two it gives him a lot of confidence. Potential on the defensive end getting steals and blocking an occasional shot. Good athlete that should be on the D1 radar.
He chatted with PrepHoopsIllinois about his sophomore campaign at Romeoville.
“It is going pretty good. I am trying to play with more confidence now. Not just stand in the corner and just be a shooter, but be an all-around player. Working on trying to get my handles right so I can get to the next level.”
What does he see his role being on the team?
“Make shots. Be aggressive on defense. Get rebounds.”
Whitaker broke down what is happening in his early recruitment.
“Right now I heard Stanford reached out to me. DePaul offered me. Loyola is looking at me.”
DePaul was the first school to offer him.
“It is really nice. I like the organization. They are real laid back and like to get you involved.”
He went to see the Blue Demons play recently.
“I love the new arena. The new arena is really nice. It was a really good game and the intensity was crazy over there. I loved the environment.”
Loyola is another program he has visited this season.
“I went to Loyola recently with Isaiah (Barnes). It was really nice. I like the program and coaching staff. They are really cool people.”
