Recruiting Report: Curtis Jacobs (2018)
Groveport’s 6’2” guard Curtis Jacobs (2018) is going to join a Division III roster next season because of his ability to stretch the floor with his jumper. The lefty even makes it look effortless from a couple steps beyond the line, averaging 10.9 points as a senior.
In-state Division III programs continue making an effort to land Jacobs, as Wittenberg, Ohio Wesleyan, Heidelberg, Ohio Northern, Capital, and Bluffton have all been pursuing him for some time.
Jacobs has made visits to all six of those universities in the fall or summer. He hopes to take one more to Muskingum, as they’ve recently entered the picture.
His decision will come down to finding a situation where he feels comfortable with both the coaches and the team. This includes finding an offensive system that he fits into without changing his game too much.
Right now, there’s a level of familiarity between him and Wittenberg mostly, since they’ve been recruiting him since sophomore year. He pointed to Wittenberg as the front-runner. Yet, he’ll wait to make a decision until around the end of the season.
Besides his shooting specialty, Jacobs can come into a college program as a combo guard who sees the floor well and keeps others involved. He’s good for ball movement in that he’s an unselfish player, often using his 3-pointing threat as a decoy by setting screens for others when the defense shows him too much attention.
Groveport is 4-8 this season with a game at Big Walnut tonight. He believes that maintaining effort throughout the game is a key for them to turn it around heading into the stretch run. Personally, Jacobs is one of their primary scorers who helps out on the boards a lot because of their lack of height.
