The Kentwood senior, Ryan Wilds, is a big part of this year’s team, and one of the top forwards still available in Washington’s 2018 class.
At 6’5, Wilds leaves his mark on both ends of the floor with his defensive length and crafty offense. The methodical footwork on this young man is next-level, and his arsenal of shifty moves is beautiful to watch. Wilds smooth agility in the lane and great mid-range jumper makes him a walking bucket.
“My biggest strength on the court is probably my ability to be shifty/crafty and get into the lane and to the line. Kevin Durant has been my favorite player since he was at Texas. His smooth game and crossover is something that has absolutely influenced my game.”
Just like Durant’s ability to score from the outside, Wild’s is looking to develop his own. Wilds knows his strength lies merely in his mid-range game, and is looking to improve beyond that.
“I have a good mid range shot and free throw, but outside shooting is definitely something I could work on to become more versatile.”
Coming into the second half of the season, Kentwood is preparing for another 4A state tournament run.
At 12-2, they currently sit first in the North Puget Sound League standings. And at the statewide level, several local sources has Kentwood ranked in the top ten. But, the reigning state champs lost several valuable players from last year’s team.
“I think our team this year is really underrated. We lost a lot of keys guys from last year, but the passion and effort that we play with makes up for any inexperience some of our guys may have.” Wilds stated.
And although the players have changed, Kentwood’s goal remains the same.
“Our goal is to get back to the dome and be the best we can be as a group, playing for each other and as a single unit.”
As of now, Wilds has no offers on the table. But, a likely state tournament run could be the perfect opportunity to showcase his talent.
