Prospect Spotlight: Topher Zahn (2018)
Five-foot-11 Sioux Falls Washington senior Topher Zahn told PHD today about what makes the Warriors tougher than others and mentioned what big name school he will be attending.
“I’ve learned so far that we have something not many other teams have, and that’s two productive big guys down low we need to utilize,” Zahn said referring to Zach Heins and Manny Akot.
“I think some challenges we have coming up is just getting back into the South Dakota schedule. We played a lot of really good Minnesota teams, got better, and are ready to get back in South Dakota.”
If playing against those Minnesota teams to get them ready for the South Dakota run was the goal, it worked. Washington beat top ten Marshall by six but lost to Prior Lake (ranked fifth in Minnesota’s Class AAAA), Hopkins (ranked second), and Champlin Park (last year’s second place team).
Since those four games completed the Warriors have beaten O’Gorman by a dozen and Watertown by six points. Washington is 5-5 on the season but their record against South Dakota teams is 3-2 with the losses coming over a month ago.
Topher is a solid shooter who is also a good leader for his team. The goal of Zahn is what you would expect. “The goal for me is completely just to win a state title,” Topher said.
Zahn is a solid high school athlete but his future is in Indiana at one of the top academic schools in the Midwest. A place you have all heard of.
“Next year I plan on attending the University of Notre Dame,” Zahn said.
In the future he will be a Golden Domer but for now Zahn is looking at the next ten games on his schedule and hoping to win the majority of them.
