Prospect Spotlight: T.J. Fritz (2019)
One of the better shooters in the 2019 class, Wamego wing player T.J. Fritz is putting up big numbers for the state ranked Red Raiders.
A left hander, Fritz is averaging 19 points per game and is shooting 44 percent from the field and 43 percent from 3-point range. He is known for his shooting abilities, but also enjoys creating scoring opportunities for his teammates.
Listed at 6’1, Fritz plays bigger than his listed height due to his length and athleticism and is averaging 5.8 rebounds per game. He has helped lead the Red Raiders to a No. 4 ranking in the latest KBCA Class 4A Div 1 rankings. Wamego is 9-1 this season with its only loss coming to Eudora.
Fritz spent the offseason competing for Will Spradling and SSA Elite and says the experience helped grow his game.
“I had and amazing experience with the team and grew as a better ball player and person,” he says.
Fritz says his dad and Kobe Bryant have been the biggest influences on his basketball career to date.
A huge basketball fan, Fritz says he enjoys watching John Wall and Kevin Durant play and has tried to implement various aspects of their game into his own.
“I love watching basketball any type if basketball and I love watching player such as John Wall because of how he makes people around him better and Kevin Durant because he can shoot and also guard and do it all and I try to take my game from him,” he says.
Fritz has drawn some interest from several college programs and hopes his hard work pays off with an opportunity to play at the next level.
“I have gotten a little interest from schools and and has been a great experience to just think that I will be able to play the game I love so much for longer and get to meet new people and coaches that will help me be the best I can,” he says.
